Celtics have announced full 5-game preseason schedule 10/8 vs. Philadelphia, 6:00 p.m. 10/9 at New York, 7:30 p.m. 10/11 at Philadelphia, 7:00 p.m. 10/17 vs. New York, 7:30 p.m. 10/19 at Charlotte, 7:00 p.m.

MY NOTE:  The regular season kicks off 10/24.  So there are 5 days to practice between our final pre-season game and the regular season opening.  I don't believe the regular season schedule has been released so I don't know if we play Game 1 of 82 on the 24th or the 25th.

I was excited because I had seen that the local pre-season game between the Celtics and the Hornets was being played in Charlotte this year. Usually, it is in Greensboro, which is a 1 1/2 hour drive for me. Then I found that it is the last pre-season game out of five. None of the starters will get any floor time for that game, it is just a preview to our GLeague team.

I don't think the full season schedule is out yet, but here's our in-season tournament schedule. Are these games IN ADDITION to the regular 82?

Pardon my reformatting.

All these 4 games are part of the 82 regular season game schedule (RSGS).

There are a couple rounds (semis and finals) where the games are extra and not part of the 82 RSGS.

Semis or Round of 4: Only 4 teams play one extra game, except:

Finals: 2 of those teams play an additional game outside of the 82 RSGS.

Final answer:
2 teams play 2 extra games,
2 teams play one extra game.

All the other in-season games fit into the RSGS.

DISCLAIMER:

This is based on my understanding of the tourney. If there are 3 rounds instead of only 2, it changes the math so that 2 teams will play 3 extra games, 2 teams / 2 extra, and 4 teams / 1 extra. IMO, the 3 extra games for the finalists is a bridge too far, so they went with just 2 rounds of extra games.
