If Only NBA Fans Had Goodell
This little gangster mofia Boss Stern is ruining the NBA, and specifically any chance the Celtics have of advancing to the Finals. If NBA fans had a man of honor and inegrity like Roger Goodel, he would run a clean game, above board, fair & square. You saw what he did to Greg Williams & Jonathan Vilma for their part in Bountygate (no paper towels here). Justice was swift and harsh to fit the punishment and star power played no part in favoratism. Goodell would deal in like manner with hoods like Wade, James and Artest. NBA Refs would be under a microscope like NFL Officials are. Fouls would be called on stars in the last 2 minutes of a game with the same criteria as if it was a bench player in garbage time. Roger Goodell champions fairness & equality. Stern doesn't even know the definition of those terms

James is not dirty, the dirtiest player in the game is Wade and he always gets away with it. Breaks Kobes nose, dislocates Rondos elbow, sends Collison flying, hitting him from behind.....not even a flagrant on any of those.

Just to tie onto your point....and speaking of the NFL.
Guess who the NBA got to buy the NO Hornets? The DISGRACED owner of the NO Saints....right in the middle of one of the biggest scandals in the history of sports, David Stern invites this guy to buy an NBA franchise.
Oh, and a day later - this new owner happens to win the draft lottery?
Yeah....all is on the up and up with the NBA

Goodell may be better than Stern but if so, not by much.
I'm much happier with the way Bud Selig represents MLB than either of those two turkeys. MLB is where you can get a 50 game suspension reversed if the process is bad. In the NFL, if you have been prescribed ritalin but fail to disclose it to the NFL, you get a 3 game suspension instead of a 4 game suspension.

Selig is probably the worst commissioner in sports.
He completely ignored years and years of steroids and did nothing until Congress got involved.
The MLB records that are forever tainted and the list of players that won't be going to the Hall of Fame is a blackeye for baseball that will never go away.

MLB players Union would not allow testing.
There was little Selig could do.

June 18, 2002: At a Senate Commerce Committee hearing in Washington, D.C., Senators Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and John McCain (R-Ariz) tell Commissioner Bud Selig and MLB Players Association executive director Don Fehr that a strict drug testing program at the Major League level must be negotiated during collective bargaining for a new Basic Agreement, which is about to expire. Up to this point, no MLB player can be tested for drug use without probable cause. Fehr tells the committee that the Congress should enact laws to ban over-the-counter sales of performance-enhancing substances.
August 30, 2002: MLB and the union unveil Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program as an addendum to the new Basic Agreement, which is bargained at the 11th hour just as the players are about to go out on strike. The new policy calls for "Survey Testing" in 2003 to gauge the use of steroids among players on the 40-man rosters of each club. The tests will be anonymous and no one will be punished.

Re: If Only NBA Fans Had Goodell
Well Selig could have collectively bargained for the right for the testing. He failed to do that before being forced to. But this was an issue that a lot of people failed on. The players and MLB were in a direct position to put a stop to it early on. The media and fans failed to bring this obvious issue to light. Anyone in the 90's knew it was going on. People joked about steroids and enjoyed the inflated performances rather than fight to keep the game in perspective.
But baseball came out of this stronger than before. Selig opened everything up. They have a good testing process now. Even w/o major complaints about Umps, they have an open and honest evaluation process. The addition of replay was added in a way to help the game on crucial calls that would have otherwise be decided by a man 100+ ft away.
And when in the most recent collective bargaining talks, the NHL, NFL, and NBA destroyed themselves with lockouts, MLB kept their issues in perspective and put together a smart new CBA. Like the NFL, the MLB drastically overhauled their draft process but still that wasn't enough of an impediment.

Kyle
Selig had no power to change anything re testing any sooner than it happened, heck the players wanted no part of it forever till finally a lockout happened and enough things were going on to give him some leverage.

Matty,
I wasn't thinking about picking a new commissioner today, but I'll vote for Hef.
Imagine some of the changes to the NBA;
- Warmups replaced by silk lounge robes
- Jacuzzis in each corporate box
- Game programs include tips for "better performance"
And don't even get me started on what the dancers might all look like...
Regards
(Don't worry Rosalie and Carol; Chippendale's for the ladies, I'm sure.)
