Stephen A. hearing C's-Clips whispers

Stephen A. Smith turned heads in Boston early Monday when he suggested on both First Take and on SportsCenter that whispers of a Celtics-Clippers megadeal were making the rounds.

Here's what he said (video above):

“I am hearing that it is possible, that the Clippers -- because Boston is going to probably ask for Blake Griffin. ... Now obviously KG ain’t enough (to get Griffin). You package KG with Paul Pierce, that still isn’t enough. But the opportunity for them to play together is something both would like to continue to do. But it gets very interesting if you let go of your coach, and you say Doc Rivers, we’d like you to come with KG and Paul Pierce.”

Could the Celtics even trade a coach if they wanted to? Here's more from Stephen A.:

“I’m not saying it’s going to happen. I’m telling you that this is what is hitting the rumor mill: that ultimately a package involving Blake Griffin, Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler essentially for KG, Paul Pierce and Doc Rivers.”

We're still a ways away from discovering whether there is any truth to it, but for now it certainly is interesting discussion fodder.

I don't think the trade would work anyway. There's about $7M difference in their contracts. We'd have to give up the rest of the team to match the numbers. Plus you are going to have to add another $2M in goodwill for the damaged goods.

I was referring to a straight up C3PO for Rondo, regardless of the main rumored trade. Will that still work? I thought C3PO comes in at ~18M and Rondo ~10M.

Blake is a steal at $7M, though.

Look out in the CHI v. MIA series. Here come all the stats on the first team to win and the subsequent results of the series. 80% or something like that for CHI to win it.

I hate to remind people of this, but Stephen A(sshole) Smith was the first person to say conclusively that LeBron was going to Miami.

Not to rain on the CHI parade, but all they did tonight was wake the sleeping Giant. MIA in 5. In this series, CHI is worse off than we were vs. NYK, all things considered.

However, beginning to think it was a mistake to let Nate go. Congratulations to him and his inspirational play. Definitely playing like a Celtic. Almost Dave Cowen-like, throwing himself all over the place in an effort to win at all costs!

There's no way the Clippers are giving up young and very athletic players in Griffin, Bledsoe and Jordan for Pierce and Garnett who might have 1 year left in their careers. I would be ashamed to give Stephen A. Smith the platform to spew this nonsense.

I'm not surprised that Stephen A. is saying absurd things and saying them with total conviction. It's his schtick, and he's made a career out of it.

What does surprise me is that Stephen A. has an audience. It makes me wonder how we retain our status as the dominant species on the planet.

the center we could have drafted, Noah has been Dave Cowens-like. I'm rooting for da Bulls, nothing would make me happier than seeing Wade play like crap and Heat losing.
