Frequent visitors to the site know we love to keep tabs on Boston's top charge-takers. With 30 games in the book, here's our latest look at how the #Chargewatch leaderboards with data logged by Synergy Sports:

CHARGES TAKEN
10: Gerald Wallace
9: Jared Sullinger
8: Avery Bradley
7: Jeff Green
5: Brandon Bass
4: Kelly Olynyk, Jordan Crawford, Courtney Lee
3: Vitor Faverani, Kris Humphries
1: Phil Pressey
Team total: 58

CHARGES COMMITTED
14: Green
11: Faverani
10: Sullinger
8: Bass, Olynyk
6: Crawford
5: Wallace
2: Bradley
1: Keith Bogans, Lee, Humphries
Team total: 67

Analysis: While Green is far and away the leader on charges committed, it suggests quality aggression towards the basket. If there's one player who fans shouldn't cringe at seeing at the top of the list it's Green, who should naturally draw his share of whistles when attacking the hoop. ... Wallace continues to hold a slight edge over preseason favorite Sullinger in charges taken. Bradley is making a quiet charge given the amount of offensive fouls he draws on the perimeter with defenders trying to create space from his on-ball defense.

Charge Watch: Wallace Still On Top Empty Re: Charge Watch: Wallace Still On Top

Red flag!!! Any time statistics comparing players are presented, they have reduced validity unless calculated based on some standardized factor such as "per minutes played" because those who have played more minutes are likely to have bigger stats. Following are the revised stats per minute of play.

CHARGES TAKEN:

In terms of charges taken per minute, Lee, Wallace and Green lead the pack with Sully not far behind. I wouldn't have guessed that Olynyk would rank as high as fifth. In actuality, while Bradley may seem to be making a quiet charge (no pun intended) in terms of the sheer number of charges taken, he's back in the back in terms of number of charges taken per minute he's on the floor.

Lee .016
Wallace .015
Green .014
Sully .012
Olynyk .010
Bradley .009
Bass .008 Humphries .008
Faverani .007
Green .003
Crawford .004

In terms of charges committed per minute, the smallest figures are obviously the best; and Bradley, Lee and Humphries lead all others in terms of refraining from committing charges.

CHARGES COMMITTED:

Bogans .036
Faverani .026
Olynyk .020
Green .014
Sully .013
Bass .009
Crawford .007 Wallace .007
Humphries .003
Bradley .002 Lee .002

To take these figures to the next level, following are the differentials between charges taken and charges committed per minute. Those without minus signs have taken more charges than they have committed per minute; those with minus signs have committed more charges than they have taken per minute. On this basis, Lee is the leader by a wide margin, while Wallace, Bradley and Humphries are the only other Celtics who have taken more charges than they have committed per minute.

In term of the differential between charges taken and charges committed per minute, Courtney Lee is the clear winner by a wide margin. And his 448 minutes represent a very acceptable "sample size" (in pop vernacular....they're actually a census of his minutes this season, not a sample).

DIFFERENTIAL BETWEEN CHARGES TAKEN AND CHARGES COMMITTED PER MINUTE:

Lee .014
Wallace .008
Bradley .007
Humphries .005
Green .000
Sully -.001 Bass -.001
Crawford -.003
Olynyk -.010
Faverani -.019
Bogans -.036

Poor Vitor looks pretty bad in terms of sheer number of charges committed; but he looks even worse when it comes to the differential between number of charges drawn per minute versus number of charges committed per minute. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why he's getting limited minutes from Brad.

Charge Watch: Wallace Still On Top Empty Re: Charge Watch: Wallace Still On Top

Bob and or Sam

Is setting an illegal pick considered in this? It is considered an offensive foul.

Also if not, then we are only talking about player control fouls (using HS terms). It would seem the guards should perhaps have more as they tend to handle the ball more. But a forward that likes to take it to the hole would certainly get his share also.
