Re: Get rid of the NBA Draft
Horrible idea.....it would end the NBA as all but a handful of teams would survive.
in fact the league has been going the OPPOSITE way with the last CBA and trying to end the Miami type "super teams" concept.
the proposed draft wheel, would make sure that no one team somehow gets 3 out of 4 first overall picks.
if you add the proposal that Doug Collins talked about in allowing High school players to either declare for the draft OR sign to play at LEAST two years in college......the draft wheel concept works even better. Since the one big complaint was a top player staying on school to avoid being drafted by a team with the top pick.
so , time for Silver to push the draft wheel concept (place the starting point based on next seasons final records) along with the High school OR Two years past to be drafted.
a player that choses to go to college become eligible to be drafted after his second season in College (or after High school). They can stay in school for additional years if they want, but the team keeps their rights.

Re: Get rid of the NBA Draft
Yeah, this is absolutely the worst idea ever.
Players can pick and choose what team they play for...???
So, if Embiid, Parker or Wiggins could sign with the Celtics or Lakers this summer and make maybe 1/2 million less than signing with Milwaukee or Philly, don't you think they would do it?
What player would ever want to sign with Toronto or Minnesota?
The draft wheel is interesting but I am not crazy about it.
I would rather keep a version of the same format, but set limitations on it such as not being able to have the #1 pick two years in a row or not being able to have a top 7 pick 3 years in a row....

Re: Get rid of the NBA Draft
Yeah, that's what the NBA needs all right. More power for the players and titles of supreme beings of the universe for their agents. The players and agents have done such a great job of helping to keep ticket prices reasonable, ensuring roster continuity for teams and their fans, and setting moral examples for our youth. Let the players have even more control, especially at age 19-20-21. Their wonderful judgment is exceeded only by the philanthropic tendencies of their agents.
