Building a legitimate championship contender Empty Building a legitimate championship contender

I guess that just about every fan likes to play General manager so I thought I'd  offer my opinion on this subject as it relates to the Celtic rebuilding plans.
Over the next 3 or 4 years acquire the assets (draft picks, trading chips and cap space ) needed to field a roster featuring 2 or more all league players whose principle ability are as a scorer or rebounder. So much the better if a player doubles up in both aspects. These are the legitimate high salary players that will eat up a sizeable chunk of the payroll and probably  limit most of the rest of the roster to role players.  Point guards get a lot of attention, but if they are non scorers don't warrant the big bucks just to run a team.

Here are some numbers to illustrate the value of the elite scorers and rebounders over the years.
From 1949-50 through 1987-88 10 players were selected each year to the all league team. In1988-89 it was increased to 15 players.
   From 1949-50 through 2012-13 = 64 years
In 56 0f those 64 years, 87.5% of the championship teams had at least 2 all league players on its roster.
In the following years, the champ only had 1 all league player but also had a player that was an allstar
   2006-07
   2004-05
   1976-77
In the following years the champ only had 1 all league player.
   2003-04
   1993-94
   1990-91
   1974-75
In 1978-79 the champ had 2 all stars only.
Its all about having elite scorers and rebounders. It worked for Danny in 2007-08. After a few years of gathering the chips he cashed them in an ended up with 3 all league performers in Pierce, Allen and Garnett and the brass ring.
