CHARLIE DON'T SURF!!!!!
For those of you who were on the game on thread last night, thought you might enjoy this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exIO8UO9Elg&feature=related
It might be five of the best minutes you'll spend today. Definitely the greatest cameo in movie history.

Bob-
Good to see your name. How are things ?
I was up in the Bay Area wearing my Lakers jersey and got jumped by a bunch of Warriors fans and ended up in the hospital. You know how those Ws fans are.
As much fun as I have posting with you guys, I will always be a sporadic poster- periods of activity mixed with times where I'm just not around.
I've been traveling a bit and kind of crazy schedule-wise for the last month or so. I actually was up in SF, though, (and Napa, Sacto, Monterey, Big Sur, etc), and while I was in the City, realized a 20 year old dream by surfing Fort Point on an epic, double overhead day.
The waves were breaking from the Ocean side of the Golden Gate and then wrapping all the way around the point (under the bridge) and ending up on the Bay side of the bridge. It was a really cool experience. (Details in the DA thread below).
Hope you're well.

Yeah- I was singing that song the rest of the night last night after we started blasting out those lines from the movie on the gameon thread.
I am a huge Clash fan. Never thought of the White Album analogy, but it is a perfect one. I didn't love Sandanista when it first came out (as opposed to their first album or London Calling, which I loved immediately), but Sandanista grew on me over the course of time, and I now like it as much as those other two. Some of their best songs ever (Somone Got Murdered, Police on My Back, Charlie Don't Surf) are, IMO, on Sandanista.
I like that live clip that you posted a lot. Brought back a lot of god memories. I saw them live in the early '80's and it was a fantastic show.
I guess old punk rockers never die. We just get old enough to hear some of the rebellious anthems of our teen years used in car commercials.

Re: CHARLIE DON'T SURF!!!!!
bsh,
I had the same initial reaction to Sandinista. I was like, WTF? One of my favorite songs is "Guns of Brixton". It is sung by a little kid (girl?) on Sandinista with chilling affect. She ends it up with, "That's enough now, I'm tired of singing". "Guns" isn't listed as a song, so it is just stuck in there. I'm listening to the CD now, I have the album out in the barn somewhere.
When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiQoq-wqZxg
All done in the Reggae Style. I think that is what drew me to them in the first place. Unfortunately, it may have been the Reggae Style that caused them to break up (or so my memory tells me).

Came to the clash late but really dig them now. They sound better every listen. I have all their stuff on vinyl and plan on giving sandanista a closer look. I know of it and have heard the whole thing but will give it a closer look.
Gyso...as your attorney I advise you to get out to that barn stat and dust those records off. You then only need a good table and you are listening to music in the best possible way. Vinyl.
Sky I also grooved hard on a lot of the la stuff...germs, jerks and the great black flag. Hell i fronted a band in the 80's called Feast of Pigs and every little town along with all the big ones had a hot little scene. DIY was king. Very interesting time in my life and i still love all the tunes...pretty heavy on the replacements and husker du as well.
ANyway i will listen to sandanista closer on yalls tip.

I'm bummed I never saw Feast of Pigs! I bet you guys went off.
Black Flag was awesome. TV Party is a seminal song. Same with Rise Above.
You ever listen to the Angry Samoans ? They were the funniest band I've ever heard. "They Saved Hitler's Cock" is an all-time classic.

All the tunes are in links and the mod is loading more feast in tonight.
Bobheck...I have been thinking about the doc alot these days. I miss him. Just reread his wife Anita's book the Gonzo way and he is on my mind strong.

gyso,
I just posted the same song on another thread, then came here and read this! Great minds think alike. Brings me back to my punk days in college wearing my white dopes on punk button. Wish I had pics from those days. (not)
My poor Irish Catholic Boston mom would ask me and my punked up girlfriend where we going, and I'd say off to see the Dead Kennedys, or off to a nightclub called Spit. Either one she thought I had lost it.

Re: CHARLIE DON'T SURF!!!!!
bob,
You have to go here:
https://servimg.com/
Set up an account with a password so you can keep going back to upload new pics. Once you get your pics there, anytime you want to insert a picture in a post, pick the "Host an image" button.
You can also do it on the fly and just pick the "Host an image" button, but you have more control of it if you have Servimg open when you host a picture.
It may take a little playing with and I'm not exactly an expert. Maybe other members could add a couple hints.

Per Danny:
Mick Jones and Joe Strummer (?) were at odds over Strummer's drug problem. Jones formed Big Audio Dynamite and Strummer unsuccessfully began a career making movie scores..................lol..........not bad for 79 !
