"Please sir, I want some more."
So many great Celtics teams though this one is my favorite. The joy that Bill Walton brought to that season was so great to watch. (As were the skills he brought). I love to hear Bill gush about that season and how he considers himself a Celtic forever.
I literally get misty eyed, get the goosebumps and chills when I watch this.

me too bob, hands down greatest team I ever saw, that team could beat most all star teams.....I used to enjoy debating Sam which team was the greatest Celtic team of all time.

My favorite team in any sport of any year.
50-1 at home that year. A record that will never be broken.

Cow
While I agree that the 85-86 club was the best, I think the 07-08 Celts could hang with them. Now there's a matchup that I would pay big, big, bucks to watch.

Ya'll's know Sams ears is a burning right??
86 is my favorite team as well with the 07/08 team right behind it... but I'll give the 60's their do.. Most years could beat any team assembled since.

God, you forget how great they really were until you watch something like this. This was one of my all time favorite teams. I will still reserve my devotion to the Russell led teams of the mid 60's when he was playing at his prime, but you are right, Walton was the key here. I met him one day at a local mall, just by accident, where he was signing autographs. When I finally got up to the front and he signed a picture for my son, he gushed at how much he loved coming here to back up Robert Parish. His joy at being a Celtic, playing with Bird and McHale was unabashed.
The passing on that team was unreal. The ball never got stuck in one players hands for long. Unbelievable court vision by all of them, Bird and Walton and McHale were always great passers, but it became contagious.
What a fantastic team they were. We have been spoiled over the years
with the teams we have been able to watch that wore Celtic uniforms.
Great video, thanks Bob
a fantastic passer always, but to watch this video, you saw that i

Cow I was very careful to say they were my favorite team not that they were the greatest team of all time. I am still afraid of the wrath of Sam!

Re: 1986 Celtics Tribute Video
Well at this point bobbyc33 its all water under the bridge, can't change my beliefs. I respected Sams devotion to protecting his 60's boys as the best of all time, but I had to disagree and go with my belief system, enjoyed the debates.
FYI my favorites were the 73-76 Celtics, small ball with running the floor and gritty inside defense.

I am still here, and I too, lived through and watched those '60's teams. Let me tell you, you never saw basketball played the way those guys played. So, I will carry the torch that Sam carried, he passed it on to me and other fans of the '60's Call me old, but, THOSE WERE THE DAYS. Russ, Sam, KC, Johnny, Ramsey, even Cousy before he retired, the list goes on and on
I will forever remember those teams as the guys who got me hooked. I loved those teams, Russell was a master and he made every single player
on the court with him shine. I loved that '86 team, I loved the Cowens teams, everyone had their own identity. So I think crowning one team
as the best ever is a mistake.
Touche' Sam!!!

Re: 1986 Celtics Tribute Video
with 16 banners there are certainly a lot of great teams to choose from but the 86 team was definitely NOT my favorite. The 86 team however would probably have beaten the 08 teams because of the SIZE.
I started watching the Celtics in 1960.
There were some truly great teams during that historic run. You could just pick one year out of the 8 and they would be in the conversation.
How about the 62 team that beat LA 4-3 with the final game going to overtime on April 18th 1962
I could probably add at least 1/2 dozen teams that were certainly as good as the 86 team and the 08 team.
But I have to admit some prejudice here. The 60's teams were the best of the bunch IMO.

Re: 1986 Celtics Tribute Video
glad to see that I am not alone in my thinking. There were some awesome teams in the 60's. I know it is hard for some to believe that those teams were not as good as the modern day teams. Well, they are wrong. From the time I was a teenager, those teams stole my heart. Bu the time I was out of school, I was at the Garden more than I was home! I even faced the wrath of my Mother when I would skip Easter dinner to be at a Celtic playoff game!
They will always have a huge chunk of my heart, those 60's teams.
But there is plenty of room for all the others too!!

Hi Rosalie
Maybe it is a generational conception. There have been some truly magnificent teams. no one mentions the 84 team but the win against LA is far more note worthy than beating Houston. The Boston/LA championships defined basketball excellence.
Not taking anything away from the 86 team. I loved them too.

Re: 1986 Celtics Tribute Video
My fondest memories of the Celtics were of the Celtic teams of the 50's and 60's . They will always be my favorites. However the skill level of the players from the 1980's on to the present, were/are so much superior to the Russell years that I fear that many teams of the last 35 years would have handled those Russell teams with relative ease. Like you point out dboss , generational bias may play a role in ones opinion.
