Billy Donovan envies Brad Stevens' personnel

Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan are both college coaches who decided to jump into the NBA, and both have the utmost respect for one another.

Before Sunday night's game between the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder, Donovan had some complimentary things to say about Stevens, and how creative he can be with his personnel, per The Boston Herald:

“We’re playing against Brad’s team and their (power forwards) and (centers) shoot 3’s,” said Donovan. “Really outside of Serge (Ibaka) we don’t have a 5-man that shoots 3’s. So you can run things that are a little more creative for a center that really shoots the ball from behind the line. So I think your personnel creates in my opinion an opportunity to be creative in terms of what you’re trying to do.”

The Celtics defeated the Thunder by 15.

MY NOTE:  He has Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, TWO legit sized, low-post traditional NBA centers in Adams and Kanter and he envies Brad his personnel because Brad has bigs which can shoot 3s.  He sees that as "the ability to be creative" rather than having a weak interior.  Welcome to the new NBA, folks. It's all about what you can make of it, not how well one can fill traditional roles.

I think OKC has bigger issues than needing centers who can shoot threes.

To be fair, Durant has been quite injury prone the past few years. His frail frame is catching up to him.
