Steve,
That's something I'm going to really miss too. It was truly special to have a genuine first-hand account of those Celtics glory days and players.
Some of the players from that era are getting up there in age and, inevitably, their time comes.
Thanks to Matty for posting that article. No doubt about it; if the number (or name, in this case) is in the rafters, they merit not only recognition, but our gratitude.
Rest well Jungle Jim. You were a true Celtics original, and your legend will live on!
Team Statement on Celtics Legend Jim Loscutoff

BOSTON – The entire Boston Celtics organization and our ownership group are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Loscutoff, a Celtics Legend and seven-time NBA champion. Affectionately nicknamed “Loscy” and “Jungle Jim,” Loscutoff passed away on December 1 at the age of 85.
Upon the conclusion of his playing days in 1964, Jim and his wife, artist Lynn Loscutoff, founded Camp Evergreen, a children’s day camp where a wide range of programs are carried out to provide an enriching camping experience. Loscutoff’s nickname of “Loscy” was hoisted to the Boston Garden rafters on April 14, 1973 for his leadership and all-around excellent play. He is the only Celtics player to have his name, and not uniform number, retired.
We keep his wife Lynn, daughters Holly and Carol, son Jim, Jr. and his entire family in our thoughts at this time.

Re: Loscy passes away
I never had any basketball skills, but really loved to play. So, being a Cs fan from the very late 1950s, I patterned my game after Jungle Jim. I also never had such a catchy nick name, but I could foul with the best of them.
How about those SEVEN championship rings? The Cs of his day have many guys who have more rings than the 6 that Jordan has. Eight or nine of them I believe, and this guy was a true TEAM player for many years while earning his seven rings.
RIP, Jim.

He was the enforcer and designated bad guy and a real fan favorite.
Rest in peace Loscy.

I too miss Sam's take on all things Celtics esp his personal experience with the players. I can still recall listening to Johnny Most as all those games were on radio not tv. Loscy had big time skills to go along with his enforcer role. It seems like many former Celtics, he managed to keep giving to the community after his playing days. RIP!
