Re: Happy Saint Patrick's!
Being at College at St. Patties Day
Remember heading up to the Vital Spot in GENESEO and getting in for their corn beef and hash and of course GREEN BEER which was free. Usually got in about 11 AM or early enough to beat the crowd and drank and ate quite a lot in the next 2-3 hours. The place was in a basement so no windows or sun. I remember walking out of there into the bright sun with quite a glow on myself. No classes for me that day!!!!!
Weird being looped in the middle of the afternoon.

Back then in NYState it was legal to drink at 18................so virtually everyone in college could partake in the festivities. Lot of bars in and around town and campus all within walking distance than God!!!
And it was uphill to the bars and downhill back to the dorms, thank goodness for gravity.

Re: Happy Saint Patrick's!
I am sharing apartment with two kids from west virginia. They are both under 21 so they might end up having to roll back to the dorms

Re: Happy Saint Patrick's!
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all.
This day makes me really miss being in New England to celebrate. I grew up in Pawtucket, RI and we used to do a pub crawl and end up in Central Falls where you didn't need a car to get to about 20 pubs. We usually made about 8-10 (before dark!).
Nowadays it's A couple o' pints of Guiness and some Corned Beef and cabbage. My mom used to call it "New England Boiled dinner".
I vaguely remember a bus trip to a C's game that usually started with bets on how many of us made it back to the bus for the trip home.
Stay safe and let's get a win for the leprechans!

Re: Happy Saint Patrick's!
Two women were sitting next to each other at a bar. After a
while one looks at the other and says, 'I can't help but think, from listening to you, that you're from Ireland.
The other woman responds proudly, 'Yes, I sure am!'
The first one says, 'So am I! And where about in
Ireland are ya from ?
The other woman answers, 'I'm from St. John's , I am.'
The first one responds, 'So, am I!! And what street did you live on?'
> The other woman says, 'A lovely little area it was in the west end. I lived on Warbury Street in the old central part of town.'
> The first one says, 'Faith and it's a small world. So did I! So did I! And what school did ya go to?'
> The other woman answers, 'Well now, I went to Holy Heart of Mary, of course.'
> The first one gets really excited and says, 'And so did I. Tell me,what year did you graduate?'
The other woman answers, 'Well, now, let's see. I graduated in 1964.'
The first woman exclaims, 'The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us ! I can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same pub tonight. Can you believe it, I graduated from Holy Heart of Mary in 1964 me self.
About this time, Michael walks into the bar, sits down and orders a beer.
Brian, the bartender, walks over to Michael, shaking his head and mutters, 'It's going to be a long night tonight.'
Michael asks, ' Why do you say that, Brian?'
> Brian answers, 'The Murphy twins are drunk again.'
Happy St Patrick's, all. i remember all that - pub crawls, looped in mid-day, then again later, all that. lots of it in the area of Holy Cross in Worcester where i did undergrad. then in Middletown, CT, and later at Duke, where i frequented an Irish darts bar called The Bull's Eye, among others. Guiness was easy enough to come across in all those towns, and i couldn't tell you the streetnames where we were, but i bet i could drive right to some of those places even now ! it was all great fun.
best,
Michael
