Summer news (sad and glad)
It's with mixed emotions that Marcus won't be around this summer..............with me retiring the end of May was looking forward to doing a few things together, won't be happening so it appears.
His last day of class in May 5th and on May 7th he'll be heading to the windy city to work an internship in the video department of the City's WNBA team the Chicago Sky. The season starts on May 14, ( I think that's their name) his sister is heading out to get him settled in as he is driving there cause he'll need his car. Then she'll fly home. This internship runs thru the end of July then the league shuts down for a month due to the Olympics. It's also a paid internship to boot
He's worked in the Syracuse U video department for their athletics the past 3 years. Tomorrow he flies to Indy with the SU Women's team that is in the final 4.
There are a couple video coordinators in the NBA right now that are grads of Syracuse. Fingers crossed that someday there will be one more.

It is always great to hear how your son Marcus is doing.
Sounds like a great opportunity for him.
Best of luck with your upcoming retirement.

beat,
That sounds like good news, but I'm sorry that you will miss him. Seeing that you will be retired, perhaps you could visit him in Chicago.
I hope that you enjoy retirement, that blessed event is years away for me.

Kids grow up and leave the nest. It's been happening since time immemorial.
Glad to see he's getting the chance to work with a professional sports team. That's gold.
Gyso has an excellent point. In less than a month and a half you'll be retired and you can go anywhere and do anything for as long as you want.

Never been one to enjoy airplanes and with my mother in the shape she is in leaving for any amount of time is virtually impossible now. Need to keep travel sort of close to home or no more than a few hours away.
He'll be home for a couple weeks before heading back for his senior year anyway.

Beat-- It seems like yesterday that your wrote us about Marcus being accepted into Syracuse! God, time goes by so fast. It is always so hard to watch them go away but it is all good news so you must be happy about his new position and very proud! Sam would have been thrilled at his success in college and proud that one of his young posters had done so well.
Retirement is hard to get used to, but once you do, you will find plenty to keep you busy. Good luck to all and wish Marcus my best, my friend.

Way to go Marcus, the young man sure is hanging around with a lot of athletic women! Sure would be something to see him working in the NBA someday.
Enjoy retirement Beat, I'm sure you'll find plenty of cool things to do.

Re: Summer news (sad and glad)
Beat,
I can understand how much you were looking forward to spending time with Marcus, but that is a tremendous opportunity. I'm sure it doesn't pay much, but what a chance to get a foot in the door straight out of school. I'd wish him luck, but based on the videos we've seen, I don't think it's necessary.
Instead, I'll direct the wishes for good luck to you as you enter retirement and continue to help care for your mother. My wife and I are involved with caring for our parents, and that's an area where good fortune is appreciated, so best of luck to you.
