HAPPY 4TH OF JULY - GOD BLESS AMERICA

BUMP UP

I've traveled a bit in my life.  I've seen stuff.  This is the best country on earth.  That doesn't mean we do everything right, that doesn't mean we don't screw up.  We do, a lot, but overall we are the best.

Travel to other peoples' countries and ask them, as I do:

1.  Whether they think it is easier to succeed in the USA than in their country?

2.  Whether they think their country is as free as the USA?

3.  Whether the USA is more or less corrupt than their country?

4.  Whether it is easier to just start a business and have a legit chance in the USA or their country

Or, make it easy on yourselves, just ask an immigrant who is here.

This is why my pet peeve is people who whine about how tough we have it here etc.  Most of those people have never climbed down into a hole in the ground, much less everyday, to swing a pickax.  Or ran into a burning building to save someone's pet.  Or braved gunfire to protect civilians from a robber.  And it gets even harder in less wealthy nations than ours.

Our weaknesses come in the form of arrogance, hubris and stubbornness.  We're not perfect, nobody is, but we don't want to change the areas where we are weaker and could use some improvement.  We look at their country and look at ours and say "why should we change to be like them?  We're the better country!".  That's true, but that doesn't mean we do everything better than everybody.  Anybody with ambition knows you continue to build on your strengths while trying to minimize your weaknesses.


Today is the 240th anniversary of when we said that the old way could come along on our journey as long as it was the best way.  We should remember that.  We should remember what our parents, grand-parents and ancestors sacrificed for us to be here.

God Bless our active military and veterans.  They are the best of us because they serve us for our greater good and not just for the quick buck.  I have the easiest and best life of anybody I know and I never forget that.

We DO live in the best country on earth

Howdy and Happy 4th of July! Just completed the Tucson Freedom Run 5K and had the honor to carry The Star Spangled Banner. No, not our National Anthem, but the Flag that the song sings about, which is, the 15 Star, 15 Stripe Flag that flew over Ft McHenry and inspired Frances Scott Key on that fateful morning. It was great reconnecting with my friends at TEAM RWB (Team Red White and Blue, a Veterans organization) As always its a real thrill for me to carry Our Flag at events like this, especially when I get the chance to teach kids and their parents a little of our history and the history of the Flag. I injured my leg this morning so won't do the long walk this afternoon but the last three hollidays I've logged a total of nearly 20 miles carrying the POW/MIA Flag on Memorial Day, The Star Spangled Banner today and Flag Day, Jun 14th. The recent move has caused me to misplace my Betsy Ross, which is my fave of all time, of course, being a non apologetic native of the Granite State. Enjoy the day and please make sure that your pets are cared for during the fireworks tonight. It always freaks animals out so badly.
