Marcus debut!!

The team lost 12-9

Marcus pitched into the third and after a leadoff strikout there was an error. He then had a little control issue and coach pulled him.
All in all not bad at all. 2 1/3 innings 2 earned runs 1 unearned. 2 hits 3 strikouts 3 walks. threw 56 pitches and 31 for strikes.

12-9 final we lost.

Marcus went to the third and was doing well gave up a LONG double for 2 runs in the second but came back to get the last out on a pop up and left 2 runners stranded.

In the bottom of the third we are up 5-2. Marcus strikes out the first batter and then gets the next one to ground to third but our player boots it. Then a couple walks sandwitched around a bloop to shallow center and Coach took him out.

Unfortunately even though we got out of that inning without further damage the next pitcher gave up 5 runs in the 4th and we never got the lead back.

2 of his 3 strikeouts were on changeups too, a pitch he has had a little trouble with.

He looked comfortable and did not throw any wild pitches but started getting his pitches up on the final 3 batters. Umps were pretty fair so it appeared.

Hard not for a 15 year old pitching in his first varsity game not to get a little rattled.

Congratulations Marcus!! Keep pushing yourself, things will be better each new game. Just remember-the key to it all is to enjoy yourself. This is the best time of your life! Good luck.

31 of 56 for strikes; good early season number. Even if he started getting them up in the third, that's pretty good control this soon and under a little pressure.

You mention one E5, how was the infield defense behind him other than that?

His outs were 3 strikouts, 2 flyouts to center, 1 to right and foul pop to the catcher. So the infield had 1 chance and missed it.

Really only had 1 ball hit hard off him.
the other hits were a slow grounder in the hole at short. 2 bloops to the outfield that one of which should have been caught but was missplayed as the outfielder got a terrible jump and it landed in front of him.

In the first inning threw 15 pitches 11 strikes.

Practicing till 6 tonight then "brown noseing the coach" by going to the weight room till 7:30 to "look" at the weights and ride on the stationary bike.
