Adriatic League produced Nurkic, Jokic, Vucivic, Pekovic, and Zubac. Big bruisers is what it's famous for, the shear number of big bruisers and their bountiful success in the NBA.

I just watched the highlight film on the link provided.

My impressions :

1. He has good mobility for a big man on defense.  He picks up cutters and can stay with them all the way to the rim.
2. He runs north/south well.  He motors up court.
3.  Zero highlights of him doing anything offensively further out than layups.
4.  The defense played against him was non-existent.  None.  Not in the low post, extremely poor positioning gave him the angle to get in..  No efforts to challenge his shots.  No double-teams to try and make him pass  the  ball out.  If he is the biggest, strongest guy on the floor, then outrun him.  They didn't do that either.  NBA defenses will not let him do a lot of this if, for no other reason,  they will swarm him and make him give up the ball.  6'11', 265# is big, but isn't Shaq-big.  

Still, he is a better true center than everybody else on the Celtics not named Horford.  I say "true center" because that is all he is, he is a one-position player.  The NBA, and especially Brad Stevens, is moving towards multi-positional players.  I have to assume that Brad and Danny have already figured out how he'd fit into "pace and space".  Pace, sure, he runs but space?  He doesn't create space.

if so, Danny will have TWO new lottery picks on the roster next season, as we defend our title.

bob he might be a mobile Moses Malone type as Shaq was a freak of nature.

That being said you can still win with a force as potent as a young Shaq or Moses even though this is a different era.

The Adriatic league is known as a league with good quality bigs.Each team has at least one good bruiser,and you have to remember Zizic is playing against players at least 8 years older than him.To give you an idea of the quality of the Cibona team....They have a player Nik Slavica who the site Draft .net has team projected as a first rounder and is playing only 8 minutes with just 2 points .

Jusuf Nurkic, Zizic's closest NBA comparison, had another big game yesterday against the Lakers:

Nurkic is stronger than Zizic, while Zizic is probably more athletic and agile at this point. Otherwise they seem very similar. Including their background in the ABA.

That line of 14 -19 in field goals and 9-10 free throws is amazing for a 6-11 265 center.I agree that Zizic is similar to Nurkic,but in my opinion Zizic play with much more energy.

Cow, Danny may be figuring that Zizic would benefit more by getting major action time on the court in the ABA than sitting on Boston's bench this year. He may also be factoring in that if we don't sign Zizic to our active roster now, we get an extra year of him at the back end, Cheap. Danny probably doubts we'd win # 18 this year but have a good chance in 2017-18 through 2011-23 when Zizic would be playing for us as at worst a restricted FA, a time period where we could be racking up championship banner after banner. I doubt Zeller will be here next year. Most likely Zizic will have his spot then. Great #22 pick for us!

I like that stat.  A Lot. You don't need to factor in the competition, the defense or anything else. 83% from the line for a big who likes to create contact is a good thing.

Zizic is playing in Europe 1 more year,because he has an older brother who is 37 years old and just retired as a player.That brother who by the way was a very good player and was a member of many good teams around Europe,including Barcelona of Spain ,thought that his little brother needed another year of experience and his advise was to stay there.Its a wise advise because Ante is growing as a player and is getting in great shape.

There's one big concern, and that is that Zizic will get mega-million dollar offers to stay in Europe another couple years, after which he can sign with Boston for market rate, aka 10+ million per year, rather than lock himself into a dirt cheap 4 year rookie deal on which he'll lose a whole lot of money.

Always risks involved when you draft n international player.

I suspect that he may make the team next year. In any event The Celtics own his NBA rights.

Yes, thanks Nets! BTW, don't rookies sign at the same level regardless of their age or Euro years? Wouldn't Zizic always come to the Celts under that rookie pay scale? If not, why would all the other Euro players not just stick in Europe and rake in the Euro dough? I bet in the end, it averages out the NBA money exceeds Euro league $$ the longer one plays in the NBA. Gyso would know the answer to this, right?

Mirotic waited out the 3 years and came in to the NBA as a rookie making big money, market rate.

Dario Saric was basically nuts to come over this year at a short-term and long-term financial loss. He could have waited until next year and got 10-12 million a year from the 76ers.


The more time a player remains overseas, the more sense it makes to just wait the 3 years and get paid real money as an NBA rookie, rather than get locked into a 4 year rookie scale contract. Saric will be eating metaphorical ramen noodles for 4 more years. Worse contract than IT4's.
