Celtics Sign Ryan Kelly
Played for the Lakers and, last year, the Hawks. Probably Maine-bound. Care to weigh in on this, TJ? He played for the purple-and-gold, admittedly on an absolutely atrocious team, but how was he. My other Laker friends liked him.
The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed forward Ryan Kelly. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kelly, a 6’11” forward, appeared in six games for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2016 Preseason where he averaged 4.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 15.0 minutes per game. Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 48th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Kelly has appeared in 147 career games and recorded averages of 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. 7 hours ago – via NBA.com

Re: Celtics Sign Ryan Kelly
one correction, he played THREE years for the Lakers.
I don't think he was signed to play in Maine. he is a 33% 3 point shooting big man , when healthy. Went to Duke. He's a Brad kind of player.

This guy now goes to Maine and learns the Cs system after being signed, in my opinion, as either a substitute for Kelly Olynyk in case Olynyk does not recover from his shoulder surgery or if the team decides to add a big man after dumping out both Hunter and Young.

Wide,
Yes, I think that would be the obvious scenario. Couldn't hurt to have him among the reserves; you never know.

Re: Celtics Sign Ryan Kelly
I'm not sure why Boston signed Ryan Kelly then released him.
Perhaps they gave him $25,000 in guaranteed money and asked him to report to Maine where he will also get the small D-League salary.
Ryan is basically a 3rd power forward. He can't play SF or C.
Your third power forward has to be able to play some center or small forward.
I would be surprised if Ryan Kelly plays another NBA game.
