Playoffs bracket
Hi,
Congratulations to all members: regular season is over. First one for this forum. Sam, ya da man! Gyso, congrats about MVP. Thanks a lot to all.
Now is the "judgment day" = playoffs. In this regard I was confused by the bracket that nba.com shows on its page. AFAIK, the 2nd round pairs selected the same way as the 1st round: the highest seeded team plays the lowest seeded team. Am I correct?
Thank you very much,
AK

Re: Playoffs bracket
sinus,
Here is a link:
http://www.nba.com/2010/playoffs/2010/04/15/schedule/?ls=iref:nbahpt1
The ranking (or seeds) is used to select the pairs in the first round only.
1 plays 8
2 plays 7
3 plays 6
4 plays 5
Teams 1, 8, 4 & 5 play in the "top" bracket.
Teams 2, 7, 3 & 6 play in the "bottom" bracket.
After the first round is complete, the winners in each series just advance in the brackets to the next round. Seeding means nothing from the 2nd round on in regards to who plays who, you just have to follow the brackets.
Seeding in later rounds counts for only home court advantage. The team with the better win-loss record opens at home. If there is a tie in the W-L, there are other tie breakers that determine home court.
I hope this explanation helps.

Re: Playoffs bracket
the 1 seed does not play the worst remaining seed
it goes 1vs 8
2 vs 7
3vs 6
4 vs 5
in chicago's case it is right that they had a better record which is why they have homecourt advantage but stern wanted to "reward" division winners even if it's in name only. Atleast now they are only given a top 4 seed instead of the top 3 of 2 years ago.
If the 7 seed wins and all other higher seeds win the 7 would play the 3 seed in the next round and the.
