I totally agree with the Pacers. The Lakers certainly seemed to violate the rules relating to tampering.

Hope they lose a significant draft pick for their actions. Just because Magic Johnson is an iconic NBA figure, the rules are the rules.

It has been pointed out numerous times that the rivalry with the Lakers didn't truly start until LA was able to actually win against us. That happened because of the Magic man who still has that magic about him.

With a wink wink here and a wink wink there, I hope they have more than this video to bring to bear.

The Lakers are denying the tampering charges.
It shouldn't take too long for the league to complete their investigation.


While the NBA has asked both teams to refrain from comment on the situation while the investigation is ongoing, according to Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN the Lakers are denying that any tampering took place and believed the matter will eventually be cleared:

The Lakers are denying the allegations filed by the Pacers, insisting that there is no evidence of tampering, and they expect to be cleared in the matter, a team source told ESPN.

Wouldn't expect them to say anything else.  There's almost 2 months before the season starts.  Should be finished by then, I would think.

Doesn't make it sound like the Pacers are particularly happy with getting Oladipo and Sabonis though, does it?

I'd say the mid-market team that has every incentive to tank, couldn't convince their superstar to stay in their city for more money than anyone else could offer and just watched their legendary CEO walk away is the one with the realistic shot at a #1 pick.

The glitzy #2 franchise in NBA history located on the beach next to Hollywood that doesn't even own their #1 pick, has no incentive to tank and every incentive to win and please the legendary CEO breathing down their necks and has a realistic shot at signing George and/or LeBron if the kids make that 'next jump' is the roster with a far less realistic shot at #1.

The Lakers will not tank, but I hope that they are a very bad team by the end of the 2018 season.

They will have a very tough schedule in the west and may get swept by eight or nine western conference teams. The Lakers may have to do very well in their games against the weaker teams in the east to escape the bottom section of the lottery. twenty five or fewer wins is not impossible even with their slightly better roster.

WIde I agree, but did you see the Pacers roster now?

They tampered. Riley got fined, Jackson got fined, but they'll get away with it because it's Magic Johnson.....
