Keep your eye on Zach Randolph.
A perfect fit for the Celtics now and is a short term buy. He can score down low and still has enough defense left in him to be a presence.

Re: The 2018 NBA trade deadline
I got a trade proposal.
Marcus Smart to the Suns for Alex Len.
The Celtics will likely lose Smart and Len is in his last year. Len averages 8.1 rebounds per game in 20 minutes off the bench along with 8.4 points. The salaries match up well and there is no long term commitment but Len could be a keeper next year. Len is 24 years old.
Len would have to waive his bird rights. He will be viewed as a non-bird free agent this summer.

Alex Len
Alex Len
Position: C
Born: June 16, 1993 in Ukraine
Height: 7’1″
Weight: 260 IBS
Drafted: 2013: 1st Rnd, 5th by PHX
College: Maryland
At 7’1 Len has a lot of defensive potential to be one of the next great rim protectors. Already a good rebounder and solid defender, Len really has to become a better offensive player and limit his fouls if he really wants to get the minutes needed to prove himself.

I think he may be a good fit but the big question is about trading Smart. The numbers work. Len would probably love getting to a team that is a contender and he plays 20.8 MPG so his 8.4 PPG and 8.1 rebounds is very productive. The Suns have some really good offensive players but their defense stinks. Smart definitely fills a defensive need for them at guard.

Zach Randolph.
He can score down low and still has enough defense left in him to be a presence.
Here is why, it improves the Celtics outside shooting. They are not getting good looks and often are taking low percentage shots. They also under pressure.
Now if you establish an inside game with Randolph, that will cause the defense to sag and allow more options for the Celtics to use on offense.
Currently Horford's inside game - back to the rim - is non existent ..........a good majority of his scoring comes from outside shooting or flips around the basket while driving. His game is not establishing presence down low to warrant double coverage.

I like Smart but I don't think he's indispensable. Plus, I am sure a desperate team somewhere will offer him more than Danny is willing to ante up.

not a good idea. He makes $12 million. Average rebounder at this point with no upside. Can't see Danny keeping him next year. he will be a FA. I think Len makes a lot more sense.
As far as Smart is concerned Danny is probably not going to keep him so we might as well get something for him now instead of letting him walk or over paying him to be a 30% shooter but a solid defender.
Danny will trade anybody.

Re: The 2018 NBA trade deadline
Len has no offensive game compared to Randolph. You rely on your point guard and wings to score outside with no offense in the paint. Not going to win many playoff series when playoff basketball goes to a half court game and not run and gun.

Re: The 2018 NBA trade deadline
Dboss and 112288,
Zebo has another year on his contract after this one for $11.6M. He isn't in his final contract year so Danny can't use Hayward's DPE on him (he makes too much too) which means Danny would have to trade about $12M in contracts to Sacto to get Zebo. Who would he trade, and how many players would it take once you got past Horford, Irving and Hayward? Even then I wouldn't eat that contract on a 36 year old player unless Sacto gave up their first rounder, and I doubt they would do that.

I see that on Spotrac. Hoopshype must have it wrong. Same issue though. You would have to match salaries.
