Jayson Tatum fell into a pretty great situation upon entering the NBA.
Tatum was one of the few top prospects in the 2017 draft to avoid joining a rebuilding team. The Boston Celtics selected the Duke product with the No. 3 overall pick this past summer, and it’s been all good for both sides since.
The Celtics have sat atop the Eastern Conference standings for the bulk of the season, and Tatum has been one of the top rookies in the league throughout the campaign. While Tatum’s talent alone has produced great results on the court, his personal success also is a product of being in a great spot.
Boston has one of the best coaches in the NBA in Brad Stevens, as well as a great blend of experience and youth. And for Tatum, there are two Celtic vets who really have helped him out in his first season in the league.
“Two guys would probably be Kyrie (Irving) and Marcus Morris,” Tatum said in an interview with UPROXX. “Those would be two guys that I probably talk to the most that help me out the most on and off the court.”
Tatum certainly is doing himself good being under the wings of Irving and Morris. The Celtics point guard knows what it’s like to experience great success early in your career, while Morris understands the toughness it takes to play against the best basketball players in the world on a nightly basis.
Let’s just hope Irving doesn’t flood Tatum’s brain with too many wild conspiracy theories.
