Catching up on things.
Lots to catch up on. Things have been a bit hectic on a lot of fronts.
Marcus acquired some great seats for the Clippers game. Second row very close to the Celtics bench.
Unfortunately we just couldn't pull out the win.
But like all things .............things change and sometimes they change perhaps for the best.
Marcus and his BC Women's team traveled to their ACC tournament and played their first (and last) game there yesterday. Seems to be the case they just had a terrible start with poor shooting and turnovers but yet somehow came back and actually had a lead late in the third quarter. With 4 minjutes to go and down 10 after N Carolina made 3 straight treys they still came back to cut it to 2 only to loose by 6 in the end. Too many games lost to injury and a very short bench.
He really enjoyed the season. Unfortunately due to their dismal record they won't be playing in any tournament and their season ended yesterday. Marcus had a feeling a while back that there might be coaching changes coming and was unsure of his employment there too if the coach was to be let go.
Well I received a call from him last evening.
You know the saying when one door closes another opens. Well that appears to be very true.
Back when he was a senior at Syracuse the head video person talked about leaving and Marcus hoped he could just move in to that position. Well the guy stuck around until about 2 weeks ago when he accepted a position with the Texas A&M football team where he is from. He asked Marcus about replacing him if he was interested.
Well yesterday things happened.
He spoke with the SU coach who asked him if he was interested in the position. He was. He was offered about 10% more in salary too.
But his concern was telling the staff at BC and just how to approach it. I gave him some advice but ............
he didn't need it as the entire staff was told they would be replaced, including him.
So he has accepted the position at SU and starts on Monday.
And the other plus is he receives a tidy severance package from BC to boot. 3 months pay!!!
Appears the discount Celtic tickets are gone but his mom and I are quite happy that he'll only be an hour away instead of 5. And he's excited too. Plus he knows the staff and the City well and living in Syracuse is a whole lot cheaper than living in Boston. It was a great experience but I think he really wanted to "come home".
As for the Celtics themselves.
Love that Smart is back and we are playing well. Playoffs are just around the corner and not sure if we can catch Toronto for the top seed but regardless if we are playing well we can get thru the east. And if Hayward can contribute it's a bonus.

From Harvard to BC to Syracuse and at some point on to the Celtics......... the progression is working out nicely.
Glad I got to see you and Marcus when you were visiting!

beat,
The world is spinning, once again, in nicely greased grooves. Congratulations to Marcus on the raise and great opportunity. Perfect timing too, huh?
For those who have never met beat and Marcus, Marcus is second from the right, standing in shorts, in the team photo. One of the advantages of having a convivial board is that people are happy, even eager, to meet fellow posters.

Congratulations to your son Marcus. Sounds like a great opportunity for him at Syracuse.
One of my sisters is a graduate and still resides in upstate NY.
Really great news about Marcus.

This is wonderful news Beat. The more experience he gets, and the more people he meets, will open big doors for him at some point. I wish him good luck. He is a real go getter!!
I know what it means to have them close enough to see them a little more often. I feel the same way with my kids. Congratulations to him. some day he will be working here in Boston.

Great timing. I'm sure he'll enjoy the return to SU.
Plus, now he can use some of that raise to treat you to dinner at Grimaldi's!
