Thanks for the link. I made the mistake of reading some of the comments after the article - what is wrong with some people?

The more strident the voice, the less likely that person is a veteran.
I plan on going to opening day in Phoenix, with my Star Spangled Banner, and protest from outside the stadium. Not sure how perhaps have a large foto of John Carlos around my neck.
But enuf of non sport posting even tho this is more important than the rule, IMO, of course.

This photo was taken and published long before 45 disinvited the Eagles. Again-
The Kneeling has zero to do with disrespecting the flag, the troops and/or the country.
It’s to protest social injustice, police brutality, racism.....
The narrative has been twisted upside down, sideways and inside out.

Please folks; let's let this topic end right here.
I don't want to take it down, so I'm just asking that we please refrain from even starting this kind of conversation.
Thanks for your understanding.

If you followed Bill Russell when he was a player (when it was completely uncool as a black man to protest anything) you would already understand/know why he would take a knee in today's world to protest social injustice.

Wide,
If your note was directed specifically to me...
It doesn't matter how you and I feel about this and please don't think I don't understand. I grew up as a frequent target of discrimination, and I'm not that young; I remember Russell and his off-court battles. You may recall, I've written often about my parents connections to the early NBA, some of it's players and owners. I can probably tell you some stories you don't know, and maybe even one or two you don't want to know. Not everyone here agrees about these protests. Each person has a right to their personal opinion, and we're not here to judge. Also, this is not directly about The Celtics or basketball.
This is a hot button socio-political topic these days, and from day one this forum was intended, in part, to be an escape from the politics of the day.
This is an important discussion, but it has it's place. That place is not here.
If your note wasn't directed specifically to me...
Please honor my request to stop comments in this thread. I want to be able to leave it up due to the dignity Bill Russell has always displayed, even if it is against our usual policy. If debate continues, and anyone starts chiming in against it, I will have to take it down as per our promised policy. I'm asking for help to justify slightly bending a long-standing rule.
Regards
