MY NOTE:  For the newer members of the board, the founder and patriarch of Sam's Celtic Forum was close friends with Sam Jones back in the '60s.  He and his wife Sally were regular visitors to each others' homes.  Dick's original ID at Boston.com was "Slippery Sam", after his longtime friend.  Everybody who met Dick Dorr loved him and I am grateful to him for providing this congenial place to talk Celtics and basketball.

Sam Jones may have been the king of bank shots when he played. A true Celtics legend and one of the many old Cs players with more "rings" than Jordan.

My all-time favorite Celtic. Hands down!!!

Sam had the earliest career start (1958) of any nba guard that went onto play at least 20,000 minutes while posting a shooting percentage of .450 or better through 1970. He sure was an elite shooter in those early years.

One of the smoothest shooters I ever watched play basetball. He was great. Also, a wonderful, caring man.
I had the opportunity to talk to Sam when I had returned home from the hospital after having major heart surgery. Imagine my surprise at hearing his voice at the other end of my phone. Our wonderful Sam had asked him to call me, knowing I was having a tough time. I still have his voice on my phone along with Dick's. Two awesome guys. One unforgettable experience.

Happy Birthday Sam, you will never be forgotten by this fan!!!!
