Markelle Fultz will not play in the upcoming NBA summer league.

That doesn't mean he won't be working on his game. The Sixers guard has been training with Drew Hanlen in Los Angeles (see story). Hanlen recently said on the Talking Schmidt Podcast:

We've been working hard everyday, working on rewiring his body and getting kind of a smooth stroke back in his shot. We're way ahead of pace where I thought we were gonna be. I thought it was gonna take me at least six weeks before we had kind of a serviceable jump shot. We already started to shoot with a jump in Week 2.


The Sixers are following a formal plan for Fultz's offseason training and have been in frequent contact with the 2017 No. 1 pick. The team does not feel Fultz's offseason development will be defined by summer league participation, which begins July 6 in Las Vegas.

Fultz showed off his handles this week on social media (see story).

Fultz, who suffered a right shoulder injury, missed 68 games this past season. He averaged 7.1 points, 3.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 14 regular season games.

The Sixers will begin their summer league minicamp Sunday.

MY NOTE:  To be fair, Jayson Tatum isn't playing in summer league neither.  To be precise, Tatum isn't because he has nothing to prove.  Poor, delicate little Markelle.  Maybe Philly can trade him wuth a big fruit basket for Kawhi.  After all, he was the #1 pick!  <snickers> Danny, you thief.

Like Jayson, Markelle logged so many minutes in the regular season and the playoffs he does not really need any more on court experience to polish his game.

A lot of players in the NBA can shoot 3s, but not many of them are currently employed by the Philadelphia 76ers so far.

Fultz is certainly out the door in Philly if James signs with the 'ers.

He will also score more points, get more assists, get more rebounds . . .

Perhaps Fultz's shooting issues have not yet been "fixed" or solved and the 'ers do not want anyone to see him shooting like he was last summer and during fall training camp which, of course, would lower his trade value considerably. He most certainly did not shine in his few appearances late last spring.

Down here (near Philly) very little has been said about Fultz so far this summer. Perhaps with good reason?

Jrleftfoot may be exactly correct with his prediction about this kid never making it in the NBA.
