We need to get Howard. LAL will go for Boogie and we would not have a physical center besides Baynes who cannot match - up with Boogie.

I'm a little surprised he didn't go with Philly. The Sixers were further ahead and closer to contention than the Lakers. But this moves makes things interesting...

1. With Lebron out of the East, it skews the balance of the conferences. Barring a return to the East after 4 years, we don't really have to worry about Lebron unless the Celtics and Lakers meet in the finals. This move is a huge win for us.

2. The Lakers are an instant contender. I'd still put them below GSW and HOU, but somewhere between 3-5. But this makes them a viable team once again that still has young talent. I suspect they'll make a push for Cousins.

3. At least Tyronn Lue will finally be promoted to Head Coach of the Cavs.

I agree with 112288 and Worcester that Howard would look good on the roster and could be a difference maker in a title run. With Kyrie, Rosier, Brown and maybe some Hayward at guard, I think the C's could live without Smart more easily than without finding another center. I'm not saying jettison Smart, still like him, but if he has to go for financial reasons to make room for Howard, I'd do it. Hawk

Rondo just signed with the Lakers. Significance? BoogieCousins loves playing with Rondo. Don't be surprised if Boogie, nowa FA, signs with LA. Another reason why it is good insurance for us to sign Howard.

I didn't realize Lebron will be 34 in December - for some reason I thought he was just 32. Maybe it is wishful thinking on my part, but this may not work out so great for LA. 34 is not 32. 32 is the tail end of a player's prime. 34 is an age where the greats can still deliver unbelievable performances, but they can't do it as often or sustain it like they could in their late 20s and early 30s. In-his-prime Lebron was not good enough to win it all during his first stint in Cleveland, albeit with no talent around him. In Miami he won 2 of 4 in his absolute prime with a pretty damn good team around him. In Cleveland he won one of four, and that win came with in-their-primes Love and Kyrie. This Lakers team is currently more similar to his teams during his first stint in Cleveland. By the time Kuzma, Ball, and Ingram are even close to ready, Lebron will be 36 or 37, with shorter and shorter bursts of brilliance. Even if they get another star, I still don't think it is enough in today's NBA (and they will need to give up assets to get anything of value). Not to mention the possibility of injuries - I hate to even bring this up, but injuries become more likely as the body tries to do what it can no longer do. Again, maybe its green-tinted thinking on my part, but this is a gamble by Magic and the Lakers. I guess if everything falls right, they could win it this year or next, but if they don't, the window may be closed and they will still be paying Lebron nearly 40 million a year.

Just not seeing a lot of interest in Marcus Smart. Free agency has few dollars floating around this year. We discussed this leading up to free agency. There are a lot of one year deals being signed.

I do not think he is worth anything close to $14 million per year. That is good for Boston and please do not be surprised if he signs his QO.

Cousins not expected to play until January. That is of coarse he has no setbacks. Achille's tendon is a bxtch! It does not heel well and is very painful. I know, I had a slight tear, Cousins had a full tear. Don't expect much from him except rooting from the sideline and garnering a ring.
