Jamal Crawford in Green?

I'd probably prefer keeping the spot open. Have it available for buyout candidate. Maybe he'd even be the target then. We have Dozier and Lemon on 2-way contracts so there would be 16 players available.

Crawford is a known quantity. He is a scorer.

Boston can always use another 3 point shooter and the style of play by the Celtics on offense seems like a really good fit for Crawford.

Guys like Crawford will only be added if Ainge can figure a way to sign any such guy and not go into further luxury tax situations, in my opinion, if a roster spot becomes available.

With the roster that he has already Crawford is not as important as he may have been even just two years ago. It is very likely that with Irving and Hayward returning to go along with the expected improvements of guys like Smart, Rozier, Tatum and Brown a designated shooter may not be necessary.

what, has Bird been released already?

I agree with leaving the 15th spot open for now, one never knows what type of injuries a team may be dealing with later in the year.

Any players out there now are has been's or never -was' , IMO. I am including Crawford in that list.

His release will come soon. Everything is in the hands of the league, once they hand down their suspension, he will be terminated. I am sure there is a domestic violence clause in their contracts, as well as other clauses protecting the team from having to carry a guy on their team who will never play for them.

As far as Crawford, I love the guy, but I will bet there is going to be a problem guaranteeing him minutes and I am sure he will want some assurance that he will get on the floor. I think I read that in another article.

I agree that keeping the roster spot open would provide more flexibility down the road.

The Celtics have a very deep roster regardless.  I do not see Bird ever playing for the Celtics again.  That opens up more minutes at SG for the rotation players and maybe even a starter or two.  I think both Hayward and Tatum can fill in at the two.  Both Marcus, Terry and Kyrie can also play off the ball.

LOL. Yeah, listen - I dont want Smart shooting much either.

But his defense and hustle means you have to LIVE WITH his shooting % down the stretch in close games, as he simply is too valuable to keep on the bench.
