The Boston Celtics announced they waived guard Marcus Georges-Hunt from the preseason roster on Saturday.
Georges-Hunt, who spent a year with the Celtics' G-League team in Maine, could still be considered for the team's roster during the regular season if the Celtics make a cut -- most likely Jabari Bird, who is facing assault charges.
Georges-Hunt has a skill set the Celtics traditionally find appealing -- a big guard with strength, switchability and play-making off the dribble. Brad Stevens praised Georges-Hunt during the preseason, calling himself a "big fan" of his game.
In one preseason appearance, Georges-Hunt posted seven points, finishing 2-for-3 from the field and 1-for-2 from 3-point range. He also dished out two assists.
Georges-Hunt previously spent time with the Orlando Magic and Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Celtics open their regular season on Tuesday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

MY NOTE: This doesn't necessarily mean anything. Bird is still on the roster but that might just be pending the league's ruling on his legal issues. If they rule against him, which would allow the Celtics to cut him, George Marcus-Hunt might be resurface with the opening of Bird's roster spot.

Re: Boston Celtics waive Marcus Georges-Hunt prior to regular-season opener
As the league continues its investigation of his arrest, Boston signed guard Marcus Georges-Hunt to a non-guaranteed contract. The Celtics can release Bird but they would have to eat his $1.4 million salary if they do it now. And if Bird is suspended before the start of the season, Georges-Hunt would still need to be waived. A player who is suspended by the NBA is not transferred to the suspended list until after the fifth game. Bird would have to remain on the active list for the first five games of the season. 7 hours ago – via ESPN

MY NOTE: On a slightly relevant tangent, 6'7" Patrick McCaw has not been re-signed by GSW. He is an UFA. If Bird is waived I would snatch up McCaw if he is still available. He is a 2x World Champion. Been there, done that and is far more seasoned than Marcus-Hunt.

good call on McCaw Bob.
However he must want more money than GS is offering and I doubt we can offer anything more than the vet minimum. so whats his motivation to sign here?

kdp,
If he is still unsigned by the time the Bird situation is resolved by the league his motivation might be having a job. If he is signed then this is all moot, of course.
