2 point shooting is not------
obsolete in the modern NBA. Here are a few stats to show how the role of the 2 pointer is still so very important to the success of an NBA champ.
The 3 point shot became a winner in 1997-98 when the league average reached .340% and has had a dramactic climb ever since. A 21 year period ( current year not included ) which has seen the league champ rank in the top 5 in 3p shooting percentage 8 times (6 times in the last 6 years) - for 38.1 %. Surprisingly, to me at least, as been the role of the 2 point shot which seems to be greatly overlooked due to the popularity of the 3 pointer - but look at how successfully the champs have been at shooting the 2. Over the last 21 years - the champ has been ranked in the top 5 in 2p shooting percentage 15 times - for 71.4% - including 5 of the last 6 years - while also going 6 for 6 on 3p shooting percentage. Shooting versatility is the name of the game. Back in the 1980's when the vast majority of the shots were still 2 pointers, the 2 point shooting percentages rankings were 8 of 10 ranking in the top 5 - for 80%.

Unfortunately few players have mastered scoring from midrange.
Tatum has been trying to do that. It will come. Jaylen also a work in progress
