Re: #5 for KG to rafters!
this is awesome news. He wasn't just endorsed by Bill Russel, but he lived and breathed being a Celtic. Kudo's to KG!!

Well deserved to a player that embodied a true Celtic leader on the floor, transformed our team with his intensity.

Without his injury after we won it all we probably win it again. Take away the refs in game seven the next year and we win 3 in a row. JMO

Great move by the Celtics! And, for anyone concerned about the length of his time in Boston, his contributions far outweigh his short duration of play as a Celtic.

Re: #5 for KG to rafters!
I love KG, I think I have said that a thousand times. Try living here in Boston. They are going at it tooth and nail. He doesn't belong up there, he didn't play his whole career here, If you are going to do that, Ray's number should go up, the Celtics are watering down the value of retiring numbers, ON AND ON AND ON.
1. KG definitely belongs there, he changed the whole culture of the team. He was above and beyond what we could have ever expected.
2. There are guys with their number up there who did not finish their careers in Boston. Biggest name? Sharman, then there was Parish, Maxwell. It has nothing to do with longevity.
3. Ray cut himself off at the knees here. Okay, he had every right to leave. It was his choice.
But he has continually thrown the Celtics under the bus since leaving. He should have shut his mouth and moved on. He is still talking, yapping away. He owed them nothing, but, in turn, they owe him nothing. AND I WAS A HUGE RAY ALLEN FAN, so this is not my anger talking here.
I would have loved for all three to finish their careers here, it just was not meant to be. And looky looky at our third year rookie!!! He wouldn't be here if they did stay, along with Jaylen and even Kemba.
I shut the tv off when the negativity starts, just once I would love to say to all of them YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT KG MEANT, you were not here!!!
Oh, by the way, he is my guy. If I hear that one more time I am going to throw up

Re: #5 for KG to rafters!
We were lost, wandering in the NBA wilderness for two decades. Paul Pierce couldn't find his way out, not with the help of 'Toine, Waltah and Eric Williams. While we'll never know this for certain I firmly believe he couldn't have done it if Danny had pulled off the Ray Allen draft day trade but couldn't also do the KG trade. Pierce and Allen as the centerpieces couldn't have overcome Kobe and Gasol etal, if for no other reason that House and Posey wouldn't have signed here and then there'd be no bench as well as no KG. Pierce and KG though? Yeah, I think they could have attracted the talent without Ray. Fortunately we didn't have to find that out, but the difference maker was KG.
I loved everything about KG. I loved how he changed everything and brought back our Pride. I loved how he lead by example and was as demanding of himself as he was of everybody else but let Pierce be Team Captain. I loved how, right up until Danny announced The Trade, KG was answering questions about his future with "I was born green, I live green and I'm gonna die green". When he said that I wanted his love child.
It's strange. People are born in a myriad of places, different cultures, religions and colors and yet it comes to pass they know, just like we do, they were born to be doing one thing at a specific time at a specific place. The GOAT, who was from Louisiana and went to USF, was born to wear green. The Hick From French Lick was born to wear green. Paul Pierce was born in Inglewood, CA within sight of the Fabulous Forum but was born to wear green and, I believe, Marcus Smart from Flower Mound, Texas and who went to Okahoma State was born to wear green. The difference between all those men and KG? The Celtics didn't have the #5 pick in the 1995 draft and wasn't able to draft Kevin Garnett, fresh out of the Farragut Academy in Chicago, Illinois. They had to wait until Minny finally accepted they had to start a rebuild and couldn't/shouldn't do it with 31 year old Garnett. Sometimes destiny takes longer than it should but it is rarely, if ever, denied.
Thank you, Big Ticket. I was like one of those people in that ad, the ones that were standing around the TV with their hands on their heads and their eyes and mouths wide-open when they heard you were coming. That is a day, and a feeling of hope, I will never forget.
I can't wait for the banner-raising ceremony. It will be glorious. I just wonder if KG will be dropping any F-bombs.
You know, for old times sake and to keep it all real.

Re: #5 for KG to rafters!
I'm not for it, but I respect it.
I think it also says Ray Allen's number must be retired as well. No KG, no Allen, no culture change, no title. If culture change and a title are the main criteria, and I think they are, both check the same boxes. Allen left. Ugly breakups happen. Kids from the marriage are still walking around. The culture changed, a title was won. Those are the offspring in this case. If you're honoring one, you honor the other. Petty differences should be put aside by a great franchise.
Also, the number of numbers retired has reached ridiculous proportions. In my opinion, it should be done in the same manner as Loscy. I think that would be an especially good move for players like KG and Allen, whose numbers belong in other teams rafters more than Boston's in my opinion.

Re: #5 for KG to rafters!
NY Celt, just cannot agree with you here But there are some others with your opinion. The owners made this decision, Wyc said he knew in 2008 he was going to retire his number. Notice, #5 was never made available to new incoming players. #20 is now worn by Hayward. That speaks big to me. No way that # goes up. I can remember Sam saying, when this subject came up, that if that # went up they would have to attach Siegfried’s name to it first.
Each person has their own thoughts, as I said. When I go to the Garden and see that empty space, I always tell my son, “that is the
Spot reserved for KG” I have been waiting for this for a while.

Re: #5 for KG to rafters!
Well, I guess I am not the only one who feels the way I do. Ainge did a radio interview yesterday and was asked if Ray Allen's number would be considered for raising to the rafters. In his own way, Ainge said although he holds no grudges with the way Ray left, the fact that he went to Miami has left a bad taste in the mouths of some in the organization. I wonder who?????? That should settle that question

Re: #5 for KG to rafters!
Put me in the yes to KG, no to Ray Allen column. Thanks for the memories, Ray. Now, shut up and go away.
