17. Celtics (via Grizzlies) — Isaiah Stewart, Big, Washington
H: 6-9 | W: 250 | Age: 18.8
Stewart had an impressively productive season for an 18-year-old freshman, averaging 17.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. He's going to generate a lot of his offensive value through second-chance opportunities, and there's some hope he'll be able to step out and knock down triples in due time.
The defense potentially leaves a lot to be desired, as he didn't have to display much in the way of perimeter defense in Washington's zone.
26. Celtics — Leandro Bolmaro, Wing, Barcelona
H: 6-7 | W: 180 | Age: 19.5
Bolmaro hasn't found a consistent place with Barcelona, but he's shown enough at lower levels to warrant first-round consideration. Boston may make sense as a destination if the team is looking to leave open draft-and-stash options. Bolmaro combines good size with quality playmaking, opening up a lot of potential for him if the jump shot starts to fall.
30. Celtics (via Bucks) — Aleksej Pokusevski, Big, Olympiacos B
H: 7-0 | W: 205 | Age: 18.2
Pokusevski is a long-term play, and given Boston's collection of late first-rounders, taking a draft-and-stash candidate is a logical choice. The 7-footer is intriguing because his skill set resembles more of a guard. He can knock down shots off the catch, generate offense off the bounce and find teammates as a passer.
There's not a ton of short-term value here, but he's worth a shot in the first round.

Re: mocks drafts.
I always have fun with these mock drafts, and the draft in general. Thanks for posting this kdp.
My own take. Danny, can you hear me?
17. Vernon Carey, C/PF, Duke. If not available, Isaiah Stewart (homer call, we know him, played at McQuaid HS locally before transfer to prep school, and in the tourney I help sponsor.) Carey would be the solution at center, Stewart would move Tatum to SF and be real tough on the boards.
26. Tre Jones, PG, Duke. High quality backup to Walker, and scoring threat off the bench. Possible future starting PG at the end of Walker's time with Boston.

As is often the case I find myself on the same page as you.
Carey would be a great pick if he is still there.
We could really use a quality PG and drafting Jones may be a good idea. He gets a nice 3 year development window. Walker looks like he is starting to breakdown.

Re: mocks drafts.
dboss,
I also agree with you on Walker. I think having a solid PG behind him, who could accept an increasing amount of minutes over a few seasons, could stretch Walker's valuable playing time a little further. Walker really is an important piece of the puzzle, but can't continue to play the big minutes he once did. Wanamaker is a decent player, but by no means a strong enough playmaker, consistent enough, or as polished on either end as a title contender would need. A player like Jones should be able to handle the number two spot immediately, also allowing Smart to be better utilized on the wing, providing defensive matchup advantages.
This team is so close. A C/PF, a second PG, a shooter off the bench. Get those and I don't think it's a reach to start talking about competing with the likes of the Bucks for a conference title.
This year's draft could be just deep enough to pick up a needed piece or two to the puzzle.
Regards

Re: mocks drafts.
The continued development of our young studs and the addition of a center PG and a sniper off the bench would complete this team.
This year has been surreal.

Boston Celtics draft 2020: Leandro Bolmaro is highly entertaining, but how will his game translate?

You may have noticed that the photo for this story is of Adam Silver.
That’s because neither the Associated Press nor Getty Images had photos available of one of the best international prospects in the 2020 draft class. Leandro Bolmaro is a 19-year-old Argentinean who played for FC Barcelona last year and demonstrated a flashy, exciting skill set. Here’s how he could fit at the next level, specifically with the Boston Celtics.
STRENGTHS
At 6-foot-8, Bolmaro either has elite size for his position if he’s a lead guard or an elite handle for his size. When he gets a mismatch, he can punish slower bigs with a crafty handle. Out of the pick-and-roll, he has a good feel for how to keep an opponent in jail (trapped behind him as he dribbles into the paint), and he can finish in unorthodox ways. Scouts love his constant off-ball movement, and teammates reportedly rave about his work ethic.
At 19, Bolmaro’s combination of vision and creativity are really high and very intriguing. He’s supremely confident, but as noted by Rafael Barlowe, he harnessed that confidence better at the highest levels of Euro basketball than he did against players his own age. That suggests he’s willing to play a role when asked, and perhaps a little too experimental against inferior players. If that holds true at the NBA level, it’s a positive sign.
Bolmaro’s shot is a work in progress, but he improved during the season, and he gets into open space really well.
WEAKNESSES
Bolmaro’s shot is his swing skill. If teams were confident he could become a consistent shooter -- first off the catch, and perhaps later off the dribble -- his stock would skyrocket. As things currently stand, he never shot more than 30 percent from deep and prefers to attack off the dribble. His handle is his strength, so that tendency isn’t a bad thing, but a consistent 3-point shot would vault him up considerably.
Elsewhere, Bolmaro isn’t an elite athlete, nor does he have good length for his height. He also needs to add some weight to avoid getting bullied against grown men in the NBA. As a passer, his vision is excellent, but he sometimes tries too hard to make highlight plays, which accounted for many of his turnovers. He will need to tone that down a bit to get consistent minutes in the NBA, especially if he is picked by a team with playoff aspirations.
FIT IN THE ROTATION
Bolmaro’s fit in Boston isn’t entirely clear, and that isn’t great. As things stand currently, the Celtics don’t really need another wing who wants the ball in his hands -- Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward and Jaylen Brown all need touches to maximize the Celtics’ offense. Romeo Langford has earned more minutes going forward, and he’s best as a ball-handler as well.
FIT WITH THE CELTICS
Still, the Celtics love players -- especially wings -- who can do everything. Bolmaro is very talented, and if he slides into the 20s, the Celtics might have no choice but to make a value play and draft him. Brad Stevens could lean in and try to turn Bolmaro into a point guard primarily, which would require some development but could create a very unique player.
NBA point guards are a completely different challenge for a 19-year-old, and Bolmaro might have a rough rookie season if that’s the goal. The Celtics, however, have plenty of time to develop a young talent, so if they like him, he could be a target.
bob
MY NOTE: While I'm still a bit leery of European players, although many are very good, I really like Latino players. They are some tough hombres, especially Argentineans. It's the macho nature of their culture. And, as we have all seen with Jaylen Brown and even Marcus Smart shooting is a learnable skill. It just takes time, repetition and good coaching to insist on good technique.
He plays for FC Barcelona. Euro sports have been shut down too, so NBA teams couldn't scout him in the absence of March Madness.
Mynbadraft.com has him going #28. Nbadraft.net has him going #26. As of today the Celtics pick #17, #26 and #30.
Watching these videos he's a ballhandler, for sure.

Mynbadraft.com has Vernon Carey being picked by the Celtics with #26. Nbadraft.net has him going #13 to NOP. NBC Sports has him #25. ESPN has him #28. So, general consensus is mid-late 20s with an outlier picking him in the lottery.
