The Celtics certainly would have preferred no player option in the final year of Tatum’s extension. Still, their franchise player will be around through at least the 2024-25 season.

MY NOTE:  Tatum will only be 27 or so when the player option year arrives.  He won't feel the same need for long-term security that 31 year old Gordon Hayward had.  In fact, a 2-3 year contract then will make him a 10 year veteran and the really big max contract becomes available.  That's what Durant did in GSW to get to 10.  He signed a 1 year, to get to 10, and then a 10-year max.

Lets hope Danny is not still around when his option year comes up. We all know how that will end.

Both J's were signed a year before RFA.

No drama.

Celtics fans should be pleased.

Cs fans seem quite happy and so should Tatum. He has turned into being an NBA star who should not be finished improving his physical or technical skill levels.

He is being paid a ton of money, but super to have him with us for a long time

Jordan won his first title at 28, both J’s still have alot of room for growth and have gotten much further than Jordan did at the same age. Ofcourse Jordan came in as a rookie in the peak of the Larry-Magic era and could never get out of the first round, obviously adding great drama to that era. My point is let’s keep on building around these 2 wings, I actually wish they had a better coach, this offense is very vanilla and BS should figure out how to get the 2 J’s going even better. I understand Jayson is first option and deservedly so, but Jaylen has to get more shots and stop being wasted in the corner on too many possessions.

Sounds like crazy money, but when you remember that Al Horford and Gordon Hayward are making 27 and 30 million per year (and GH was making 34 million), it doesn't sound too bad. Considering Danny has Marcus and Jaylen on bargain contracts, Celts aren't doing too badly. TT and Teague's contracts also seem quite good. And Theis is the biggest bargain in the NBA.
