cowens/oldschool,
I can assure you these owners have protection against all of this. Who's the insurer that underwrites all those wacky policies? Lloyd's? Every thing can be covered for a price. The owners got wealthy by not giving away and/or protecting all of their crap. The media is driving all of this bs. Wife's paycheck that all the owners have some type of coverage for all of this. They aren't losing a penny. There's only one way to accidental wealth and that's the lottery!!

Re: Philadelphia 76ers suspend Ben Simmons for their season opener
It’s a total mess that will eventually get sorted out. They wanted to trade him last season for Harden but couldn’t pull it off. This year he wants to get traded and they cant pull that off either. Ineptness runs amuck in Philly, especially in the front office.
There are some players that are not earning their keep but to intimate that
they are overpaid is questionable at best.
The owners are billionaires, the players millionaires. The players are the product and if you drill down deep enough (there was an article posted here recently regarding salary) we’ll find that the majority are not overpaid. Yes even the ones making 30-40 mil. And, there are some that are underpaid. We have slouches in every line of work but when one applies the proper metrics and further examine how much money there is and how its being distributed, we’ll find that its not the players who are overpaid.
Mental illness (depression, anxiety) is real- even in sports where it appears everyone is having fun.
Ben says he’s not mentally ready-yet. I suspect there’s a huge difference between real depression and anxiety and what Ben is going through.
Prudence dictates that Ben get his ass back out there be it Philly or somewhere else. Philly will continue to have their issues whether he is there or not. That’s just who they are.

+1 I would only add that 1 billion is 1000x 1 million. The owners are doing fine, and remember, they are never spending their own money. I have taken a number of digs at Simmons and I stand by those comments, but Ktron has a point. The Sixers know who this guy is and have known for quote some time. A well run team would have begun dealing with his issues years ago.

They’ve wasted time and little effort on so many players who are no longer with the franchise. Embiid will break down again soon then they’re back to square 1…again!
Isn’t it funny that no one ever says that the owners (as you said are hardly ever spending their own money) are overpaid spoiled brats.

Ktron,
Just the media feeding Kyrie's addiction for attention, that's all. Same old, same old. Driving the story into the ground until another more interesting topic comes up. And people like me can't seem to put him down because I want to see a train wreck to the adversary! I know. I need help. Same reason why people watch NASCAR.
My mother-in-law adds a very interesting twist to whatever this syndrome is called. Every Sunday, we have a family dinner prepared and hosted by my in-laws. When she is prepping, we will obviously help but when she is cutting tomatoes she uses the sharpest knife sharpened weekly by my father-in-law. With very fleshy tomatoes and a very sharp, freshly honed knife, cutting it almost effortless. And she is very good at it. Yet she very skillfully cuts the tomatoes with both hands and the knife always coming toward/going into her fingers and thumbs and not away from. But to date (for me) it has been 8 years and I've never seen her slip. I call it reverse NASCAR because obviously I don't want her to cut herself but you kind of have to wince and watch it anyway!!

The Sixers have stopped fining Simmons for not being at practice. This is a response to his assertion that he is "not mentally ready". Apparently that means it's more than just 'tude, it's professional.

I saw the Cedric Maxwell podcast with Paul. If you haven’t seen it, check it out. He says a lot including the part about Ben Simmons and why. Interesting.

Hey Freddie!
Welcome. Pleased to meet you.
I suspected there was going to be some fur flying eventually when I saw Embiid disrespect Fultz. Embiid has no patience for players who aren't willing to go hard at all costs, including at risk to their health, and now that includes Simmons. What's ironic about all this is that the Celtics own a 3 bedroom condo in Joel Embiid's head. He probably shouldn't be talking.

If I’m the owner and this kid refuses seeing medical people for his head/condition, I’m not paying him.

A player who comes to camp every season out of shape has no right to judge other players on how hard they work or the status of their mental and physical health.bobheckler wrote:Freddiedrop wrote:Emiid straight coming out calling him a kid. i didnt agree with rumors years ago that they were beefing but defo wrong they are totally different guys.

Cow,
And if I'm his agent, or the President of the Players' Union, I'm saying "pay him now per the contract that leaves you zero discretion or pay him later, PLUS our legal and court expenses, when you lose".

Re: Philadelphia 76ers suspend Ben Simmons for their season opener
Good to see this dysfunction and fight. I think that Simmons reported in order to take away the leverage that the Sixers had, enabling them to fine him. Now it gets into a grey area. After all, Kawhi sat out a whole year citing thigh issue and followed the advise from his own doctors. It will be interesting to see how this conflict resolves.

Curious. I wouldn’t want an employer to be privy to my medical records. Especially if I’m seeing a shrink.
Doesn’t Hippa come into play here?

I do not know about Hippa. From what I read, Simmons is getting some mental health counseling through the Players Association but not from the team's resources. He refuses to share what is going on with that treatment. The Sixers are playing hardball. I think they will be sued and be forced to pay him. Once it was determine by both sides that he does not want to play for them anymore why on earth would you even want him around the team?
The Sixers need to smarten up and just trade him and stop trying to extract more than what he is worth. Take the loss and move on.

Re: Philadelphia 76ers suspend Ben Simmons for their season opener
This party has been over since the playoffs last year. Simmons may have issues, find a way to deal with them. Hey, what did Kevin Love do when he finally admitted he had problems. I just would like to see Simmons grow up, go to the doctor or whoever, see whoever will help him, and end this story. It only gets uglier and uglier. Trade the kid to whoever will take him and move on Philly. You are just as responsible for this as the kid is.
The funny thing to me is, you would think I cared about the Philadelphia 76er’s. I have hated them since I was a kid, right up there with the Lakers. This is a tired story

One can believe Simmons sux without kowtowing to the owners. I'm about as anti-billionaire as you can get, and still have minimal sympathy for Ben. Play or seek mental health help. Blaming Joel for Simmons' problems verges on the laughable.

Re: Philadelphia 76ers suspend Ben Simmons for their season opener
I’m not a supporter of billionaire owners either, but if players are allowed to hijack a franchise and get paid the way Simmons is attempting to do, this is what I call stealing money, totally working the system. The owners will put something in place so that entitled brats like Simmons cannot pull this bad stuff off. In effect it will be bad long run for the players, but this is utter bullsh!t, everything he is pulling and claiming is to get paid, it’s bad for the game, his reputation is already ruined, but now he’s after as much money he can get, without caring about his profession.
