Nice win by the Mavs as they get a stay of execution to play another day.

Re: NBA Playoffs - 2022
Well it's definitely worth recording but Golden State better slam their door shut tonight and leave no doubt. We'd all like to see the GSW's wheels wobbled a little bit. Just enough to get in their heads that they ain't all that and come into Finals on 3 flat tires!!

Re: NBA Playoffs - 2022
I watched most of the GSW game last night.
Doncic with 28, but on 10-28 and 3-13 from 3. Dinwiddie completely outplayed him off the bench.
Remember when there was chatter about how Brad should make some ridiculous trade for Bertans because he would be such a valuable shooter? 3 points in 4 minutes in an elimination game.
Curry had a Doncic-like night shooting, but Klay was unconscious. This is very, very dangerous for us. Klay is back. 32 on 12-25, 8-16 from 3 and some of those were not simple catch-and-shoot 3s. They were fading left with a defender draped on him 3s or a coming off a screen 3. Jaylen will have his hands full.
Kevon Looney, whom I've always thought of as GSW's weak link (partially because I have a blind spot when it comes to spotting tweeners who can still make their positions work) with 10 points and 18 rebounds.
#1 pick Andrew Wiggins with 18 and 10.
GSW is peaking at the right time. We are too, although we're more dinged up than them because the WC may be talented but it's not as physical as the EC, but it's going to be a great series as long as nobody goes down with a serious injury.
GSW's defensive rotations were quick. They don't have real bigs like we do, so they make up for that with speed. If you're open you better be ready to catch-and-shoot or to make that extra pass because a defender will be flying at you before you know it.
We just need to polish Miami off tonight so we have those two extra days to rest our warriors. Wipe the Smirkstra off their faces.

Re: NBA Playoffs - 2022
BobH, you should be ashamed of yourself!! First off for putting the cart before the horse but more importantly not recognizing and acknowledging the pattern. Each round Boston has had some God-awful, season-ending, totally disrupting obstacle that could NEVER be overcome. First round it was Kryrie and KD, at that time the greatest player on the planet. We reduced both of them to 14th & 15th on the bench G-Leaguers.
Then in the 2nd round we would NEVER be able to figure out Giannis even without Kevin Middleton and their cast of characters. They were current championships and had just too many weapons. Now we somehow managed to contain Giannis and since the others didn't show up, we won that series.
Then dboss makes a very astute argument and points out to complete the set for revenge on past series lost, we need to take out MIA. Have we made the Heat look like skeletons of their former selves? I know the jury is still out until tonight, but MIA has gone MIA for good. But we cannot come out tonight and have any resemblance to 1st half of this season or all of last season. Not even one play.
This team has done it all their way. And tonight, winning may not be in their cards. But winning the series is and they will. It's time to start acting like champions and champions close out the first time they have the opportunity. Each round they have systematically and methodically overcome all the obstacles thrown in front of them and strangled the competition with stellar, unforgettable and unforgivable, relentless, totally disruptive defense. Boston has been building the whole playoffs to tonight. Time to put the final nail in the Eastern Conference coffin. After that, BobH, you can speculate all you want!! No jinxes!! You know how spooked Celtics fans can get even though we've go Lucky the Leprechaun on our side!!!

dbrown,
If saying we should polish off the Heat tonight so we can rest our players for the final Championship push is shameful then I feel properly shamed.
Shame just doesn't seem to feel as bad as it used to. I must be getting used to it.

Klay is back to his formidable offensive self but has lost his lateral quickness on D. Unfortunately Wiggins learned how to play serious D along the way.
I expect to see him on Jayson. A lot.

Miami Heat fined $25,000 for ” bench decorum” issues during Game 6
https://sports.yahoo.com/miami-heat-fined-25-000-230020351.html
That play sums up why the NBA fined the Miami Heat $25,000 for “violating league rules regarding team bench decorum” during Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The NBA did not specify the incident after Lowry had fouled out but continued to defend, saying instead:
“On multiple occasions, several players stood for an extended period in Miami’s team bench area, stood away from the team bench, and were on, encroaching upon or entering the playing court during live game action.”
The Dallas Mavericks were fined three times and a total of $175,000 for “bench decorum” violations during the playoffs. It didn’t change the team’s behavior. This slap on the wrist will not change things in Miami for Game 7.
If the NBA wants to change behavior, they need to start assessing technical fouls and handing out free throws for violations. That will get teams’ attention, and it’s expected to be discussed during the offseason. Keep using relatively small fines and everyone will just shrug and continue to do what they do.

Re: NBA Playoffs - 2022
So I went to make tonight's Game On! thread. I wanted to see what our NBA Finals Game On! threads looked like in the past. I found the ones from 2010. I read through a couple of them. Memory Lane!!
This is from Game 2:
https://samcelt.forumotion.net/t1555-game-on-vs-the-los-angeles-lakers-june-06-2010-game-2-nba-finals
The 2010 NBA Finals started on June 3rd that year so we are starting one day earlier. The difference this year is the additional time it took for the Play-in games. That took the better part of a week to complete. Too bad the league made up that time by scheduling the second and third round series games every. other. day. for. two. weeks.
We played two seven game series back to back and the physical toll due to insufficient recovery time between games affected the product on the floor. The Heat played one less game in the 2nd round, but they were also having issues with keeping their players healthy and ready to go.
I hope next season the league learns from this.

NBA Finals: Andrew Wiggins wants to set the record straight. He was always a competitor

SAN FRANCISCO — Coming off Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors star Andrew Wiggins has been seen in a new light with how he dug deep defensively and by dominating the glass to help his team even the series at 2-2.
The lean, athletic forward registered 17 points, pulled down a career-high 16 crucial rebounds, had a starting unit high plus-minus of 20 and held Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum to 23 points on 23 shot attempts. His desire to win and compete was displayed in his 43 minutes Friday.
There was a period during his six seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves that his competitive spirit was in question. Wiggins possessed athleticism, a quick first step and the ability to handle the ball at 6-foot-8, yet he didn't break out into a star, leaving critics to believe he wasn’t seeking to maximize his attributes.
“I would never say that I wasn’t competitive at any point. I was just on a losing team [in Minnesota],” Wiggins told Yahoo Sports after practice Sunday. “I used to score more and do pretty much everything, but now I’m on a winning team. So, everything I do, people will appreciate it more and that’s what winning does. No one respects losers, and I feel that. Everyone says they want to be a winner, but everyone can’t do it. People respect winners, and I’m happy to be in this situation.”
That “noncompetitive” label is being shed now in Wiggins’ third season with Golden State after being traded there in 2020. There is evidence from his rookie season that supports his assertion he always carried a competitive fire.
The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Wiggins with the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft. And not too long after, LeBron James made a splash when word trickled out that he was returning to Cleveland after spending the last four years guiding the Miami Heat to two titles.
From there, Wiggins’ fate was unknown as management suddenly had to quickly assemble a championship roster around James.
It was an awkward period for Wiggins that extended close to two months, knowing he’d likely never play a game for the team that drafted him.
“It was a tough time,” Wiggins told Yahoo Sports. “I can’t lie.”
In a blockbuster three-team trade in late August, the two headliners of the package saw Wiggins sent to Minnesota in exchange for All-Star power forward Kevin Love.
And in the two games against Cleveland during that season, the eventual Rookie of the Year made sure the Cavaliers remembered why they took him with the first overall pick.
In their first meeting in late December, Wiggins produced 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting in a losing effort in Cleveland. At the time, it was his second-highest scoring output.
The final meeting of the season came in late January. Minnesota lost again, but Wiggins erupted for a career-high 33 points on 14-of-25 from the field in 43 minutes.
“I definitely had them circled on the calendar,” Wiggins told Yahoo Sports. “I knew exactly when they were coming for sure. I was ready.”
A year later in their third bout, Wiggins upped the ante by setting a career-high of 35 points on 12-for-19 shooting. Wiggins and the Timberwolves would not defeat the Cavaliers until his fourth season in the league, but the young star made his point.
“I wanted to show them what they were missing, show them I’m doing better over here. That was my mindset back then,” Wiggins told Yahoo Sports. “It was always fun and competitive playing a team that had traded you. It wasn’t an easy experience to go through, but I feel like that’s what kept me motivated and competitive.”
The Cavaliers got a title out of the trio of James, Love and Kyrie Irving in their second season together after upsetting the Warriors in historic measures by overcoming a 3-1 Finals deficit in 2016.
Wiggins said he understood the route the Cavaliers took to surround James with established veterans and he holds no hard feelings.
But he wants to set the record straight.
“I’ve always been a competitor and wanted to win. That should never have been questioned,” he told Yahoo Sports.

True that.
Considering that many fans had no, zero, nada playoff hopes, nevermind final hopes, just a couple months ago, now I am seeing "blow it up", "trade for Beal", "we suck", etc. in many places.
It makes it hard for many fans to just cheer on our team (Go Celtics!!!) when perfection fails to happen, and many other fans resort to rage at that failing.
