What to do with Ben Simmons?
This guy's name brings a cringe to everyone in the NBA as well as to every fan of the NBA due to not playing even a second for the entire season.
So, what to do with him? And, what does he do for himself?
He has to get out of Brooklyn, and perhaps even more than he needed to exit Philly. Will the Nets hang on to him almost out of spite like the er's stupidly did?
Will they put him on waivers hoping that someone picks up his massive contract and not worry about getting even a late second rounder for him?
I am going to predict that the Nets, as part of another huge new approach, will just cast this guy aside and just release him.
And, if the Nets release him soon enough that a good team can bring him in on a vet's minimun contract that he will be scooped up by one of the better teams that
have a much stronger coaching staff, with other good young guys and has a much better team culture already in place. After four years in the league, he is not going to lead nor score so a weak team should not ever plan on bringing him in to do either for them.
If this is the case, Ben Simmons would look great in a Celtics uniform. In Boston, the coaching will be far better than in either Philly or New York, he would become
the 4th or 5th best guy on the team so he will not have to be the leader that Philly always had to have him become (Of course, he never became the leader they
needed) and he also did not become the scorer or defender that the Nets needed after trading Hardin for him. And now with what our new head coach and players have done Boston since Christmas has certainly put the "C" back into basketball culture.
Your thoughts as we all wait for the next round of the playoffs

They can release him but they are on a $114 million hook. That ain’t happening. We don’t need or want him but I'm sure someone does.

Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
In no particular order,
Never got in shape and that may have cost us a championship.
He never knew when to shut up, always getting techs and went over the limit in the regular season.
IMO, he was a bad influence on Perk. Before Sheed, Perk didn't rack up the techs. Once Sheed came onboard, Perk never knew when to shut up either and he also went over the limit.
I didn't like Sheed before he came here. I remember when we signed him, I said "he wears green, I'll cheer for him. After he leaves, I'll cheer even louder."

Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
That's a very interesting viewpoint, wideclyde, pertaining to him being a Celtic. This poor kid needs some structure. He needs a huge PR makeover which I'm not sure the Celtics have time to put up with nor will willingly provide.
He's lost all his value for sure and the vet min would have to be his starting point to begin to rebuild, if that is what he wants. Those are the operative words and perception he is going to have to answer to and over come.
That's a huge ask given the evidence (or lack therof) we have before us. Maybe he can hide overseas for a few years where nobody cares.
If he gets waived, I'm not sure anyone picks him up. The damage he has done is beyond imaginable that I'm not sure the NBA even wants him. Certainly not as a starter.
He's going to have to start all over again. It's a several year rebuild at best. Throw in some untimely injuries and he may be done.
All I know is BKN is wasting valuable time. No news today. They have to get through their own hubris in a hurry and realize they have a shoot show going on there and they are the laughing, pitiful stock of the NBA. But that's BKN in a nutshell. Can't find their own a$$e$ with both hands.
Especially after the league goes on strike or players are locked out in 2025 because of the ensuing BS/KI Rule that's coming, the rest of the league isn't going to want to play with him or Kryrie for that matter. Owners will get the you have to play to get paid rule in some form. This is the complete opposite of what now gets called the Bird Rights Rule. That was positive for the players. Nobody hated Bird after that for putting that Right in place. But can you imagine still playing in the league and having the BS Rule named after you? Players won't exactly warm up to you, just like the BKN team did for ol' Ben as he sat on the bench with them. Come on, BKN, get off the pot and start firing and trading. All the way through, top to bottom.
And like I've said, most if not all the players want to play and get paid. It's just a couple of bad apples that spoil it for the rest of the players. Thanks, you two clowns.

Not our problem.
Unfortunately the leagues problem as any players going out of their way to collect and use every excuse in the book for staying off the floor is a stain, embarrassment and can no longer be tolerated. Can’t blame the owners for not wanting to be kept hijacked into these situations.

Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
Simmons is a great defender. Simmons is a great rebounder. Simmons is a great floor general. Simmons can't even spell 'shoot'. As a player he's very valuable. As a teammate he's a hot mess in a state of complete mental meltdown and we are now seeing the value, and joy, of a happy well-knitted locker room. Why F that up?
Would I replace Derrick White, with his contract, with Ben Simmons on White's contract? Yep. Would I replace White with Simmons with Simmons' contract? Nope. Notice, I'm talking about replacing a bench player, not a starter. Ben Simmons would not start on my team because he's a flake and starters have to be predictable, dependable and reliable.
He told the Nets front office that the thought of playing in Game 4 resulted in back problems. That is some serious psychosomatic shite right there.
He's never worn a Brooklyn Nets uniform in a game yet and he's already suspect, at best, by the fans because they now know without a doubt he is the Cowardly Lion. The best thing for Ben Simmons would be if Brooklyn traded him to a Western Conference team, so he wouldn't have to face his old teams often. I hear there's a team in southern California that's looking to unload a high-priced, overrated former superstar. He's not a great shooter either, but at least he's not afraid to step between the lines.

Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
Bob, honestly, out of a sense of self-preservation, if I were asked to play vs any NBA team I would develop a ton of psychosomatic ailments ASAP to get out of it. But then, I am not 6'10, 250# with a $40M contract. So there is that.
Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
The question, as proposed, was that Simmons would be added at the vet minimum. The likelihood of Simmons being released or bought out was not part of the question. The ask assumed that he was already released.
We are not asked to replace White or anyone else currently under contract in Clyde's proposal. We are merely being asked if we would add Simmons at the vet min.

Simmons might be an adequate replacement for Luke Kornet. Might be at Luke's salary..
Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
It really is sad when you have to question someone's heart about their own craft given the amounts of money involved. Not good for the league with even one bad apple, much less two on the same team.

Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
how long has it taken to get rid of the headaches and pains in the a... to build this team to where we are now??? Even mentioning Simmons nauseates me. No HEART, No SOUL, no GUTS. just wants the glory and the money with no effort
I heard on a show last night that Atlanta has been so disappointed in where they ended up, talk about a trade of Huerter and Collins for Simmons. That would be a big plus for Brooklyn, a huge minus for Atlanta.
They can have him, anyone can have him, he will never become what he was being paid to be

Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
The NBA game of musical chairs begins once again. So glad we have a steady and stable Celtics franchise.
Re: What to do with Ben Simmons?
The Nets have a lot invested in Simmons. Therefore, I do not see him being released.
We do not know what the future holds for him. He has a head problem and a back problem. Both are debilitating. He is still young enough to recover and have a successful NBA career.
If he was available to sign at the veteran minimum, teams would be lining up including the Celtics. As a fan take a glance down the end of the bench. The roster fill in crowd are very unlikely to contribute in any meaningful way.
