Draymond Green got physical with almost every Celtic player on the floor in Game 2.
The veteran Warriors forward made headlines after Game 1 after dismissing the Celtics’ hot shooting night and looked prophetic to a degree after Golden State bounced back with a blowout win on their home court in Game 2 on Sunday night.
Green’s impact on that win was debatable (9 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists) from a numbers standpoint but there is no question he made it a mission to have his presence felt early, both physically and mentally. He got into scuffles with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Grant Williams over the course of 48 minutes. However, after the loss, Al Horford did not want to credit him for getting in the Celtics’ heads as the visitors fell apart in the second half.
“No impact. He’s going to do what he does,” Horford said. “We’re not worried about him. We’re going to do what we do, focus on us. We just didn’t get it done tonight. We’ll be better at home Game 3.”
Horford was also tentative in giving the Warriors any credit for the victory based on the level of physicality they played with.
“I don’t know if they raised it,” Horford said. “Whatever that is, I just think that we just weren’t good enough tonight, especially in that third. But I don’t think it has to do anything with that.”
Instead, the focus for Horford heading into two days off will be regrouping from an offensive standpoint and figuring out what went wrong for Boston in the third quarter.
It’s something we have to fix, that we have to address,” he said. “I know Coach has talked about it. I’ll have to go back and look at the whole game but really look at the third, and we need to find ways to be better. They do a good job in the third. We went through a stretch in the season where we were doing pretty good in the third, as well. Look at that film and be better, and I think that we can. It’s a mindset.”
