NBA Salary Cap For 22-23 Projected At $123.6M

The salary cap for the 22-23 NBA season is projected to come in at approximately $123.6 million, which is an $11.6 million increase from last year's figure of $112 million.

The final salary-cap number, which will be determined once the audit of the league's finances is complete and the basketball-related income for the 2021-22 season is totaled, will be sent to teams before the league's moratorium for the start of the 2022-23 league year begins, at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday.

According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the following figures represent the max salaries:

0-6 YOS: $30,913,750
7-9 YOS: $37,096,500
10+ YOS: $43,279,250

4-year max 0-6 YOS: $138.5M
5-year max 0-6 YOS: $179.3M
4-year max 7-9 YOS: $166.2M
5-year max 7-9 YOS: $215.2M
4-year max 10+ YOS: $193.9M
5-year max 10+ YOS: $251.0M

Patty Mills has opted out of his $6.184M contract with Brooklyn.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets offered a 2 year contract by Brad for somewhere in the $11M total package range.  He'll be 34 next month, 2 more years will be just about all he'll be able to sell to just about any team.  He  averaged 29mpg over 81 games last year, a total of 2346 minutes at age 33.  By comparison Al Horford played 2005 minutes over 69 games and Jaylen Brown totaled 2220 minutes.  Think of that!  Not only did Patty Mills play more minutes than Al Horford he played more than Jaylen Brown.  He is still quite durable.

The first year would be for this year's entire MLE, the 2nd year will make up the rest of the contract.  Maybe a Player Option, maybe not.  

We need veteran shooting off the bench.  Patty Mills is definitely that.  He shot 40% on 568 3pt fgas last year.  Ime has a long history with Mills.  Put these together and you've got synthesis.

I am really surprised that Murray is going to the Hawks.  He is a very impressive PG but how do they play him next to Trae young.  Both of them need to have the ball in their hands.  It seems strange unless the hawks are going to also move Young.

Kevin Huerter is probably available.  He has a plus 3.8 net rating but do not expect him to play defense at a high level.

If Boston is looking for a wing scorer off the bench he may be able to fill that role.

Given his $14 -$17 million per year salary remaining I expect Brad to go bargain hunting elsewhere

Kemba has been bought out by Detroit.

Just speculating, but I think the Celtics front office is going to be fairly quiet here at the start of official crazy season.

There are a lot of seats to fill on the bench and needs with the front-court and a shooter or two. Filling that many holes makes it tough to spend too much on any one player. That big TPE helps squeeze someone in, but you still have to pay them and I think there's a fair shot that TPE expires unused.

My guess is the team signs some FA 'best of what's left' types after the initial frenzy.

In addition to the 76ers, the Hawks, Timberwolves, Nets and Bulls are among the teams expected to pursue Tucker, who is now "unlikely to return" to the Heat. It's believed each team will offer Tucker the full midlevel exception or taxpayer midlevel exception.

Why am I expecting a Patty Mills announcement today? A reliable score and floor spacer replacing PP's role. He is also bigger than PP.

That is what they have been talking about as an area of need.

The backup wing is likely getting addressed through TPE.

Patty Mills was on my wish list last year during free agent. Brad could have signed him last year. Instead we mucked around with the bridge to nowhere in Kris Dunn. We also added DS and moved him in Feb.

Jalen Brunson To Sign Four-Year, $110M Deal With Knicks

Jalen Brunson intends to sign a four-year, $110 million deal with the New York Knicks at the start of free agency. The deal will likely be worth approximately $105 million plus additional incentives.

Brunson informed the Dallas Mavericks of his plans. The Mavericks were never given a chance to make an offer to Brunson.

Dallas declined the opportunity to extend Brunson on a four-year, $56 million extension multiple times during the 21-22 season.

The Knicks cleared cap space in the week before the start of free agency to make an offer to Brunson. Brunson's father, Rick Brunson, was hired by the Knicks as an assistant coach this offseason. Brunson's former agent, Leon Rose, runs New York's front office.

Brunson averaged 16.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 79 games during the regular season.
