Woj: Boston Celtics ink veteran big man Noah Vonleh to camp deal
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/woj-boston-celtics-ink-veteran-big-man-noah-vonleh-to-camp-deal/ar-AA10cqTm
Per ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics have reportedly signed big man Noah Vonleh to a one-year deal with the hopes of making the 2022-23 Celtics regular-season roster. The signing comes on the heels of Boston offering former Houston Rockets center Bruno Cabloco a camp deal earlier in the day on Monday.
Vonleh, a seven-year vet drafted by the Charlotte Hornets out of Indiana with the ninth overall pick of the 2014 NBA draft, last played for the Brooklyn Nets in 2021-22, playing limited minutes in a bid to get back into the league after stints playing abroad in Asia.
The 6-foot-10 big man has shown flashes of being able to shoot from beyond the arc and has defended well in the past, though that has not been his calling card in recent stops in the NBA.
With the Celtics able to carry as many as 20 players heading into camp, expect a few more similar such deals for Boston to fill out the rest of their frontcourt rotation.
He has averaged 4.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game over his career in the league so far.

Nothing to see here, big underachiever, but probably better than Kornet IMHO.

No money or trade prospects for badly needed front court help, so you scrape the bargain bin floor in hopes of a find. They're doing what they have to do.

Re: Celtics Sign Noah Vonleh
Looks like it's a one-year non-guaranteed contract. He's invited to camp. IF he makes the team then at some point that contract is guaranteed. If he doesn't make the roster then no-harm, no-foul.
The most interesting thing about this signing is that we'll get a better idea of who Kabengele is. He'll be competing against Vonleh. Vonleh has 5683 NBA minutes while Kabengele only has 344. Vonleh is pretty much an NBA wash-out. He was the 9th pick in the 2014 draft, a very solid lottery pick position, and last year he played in Shanghai.
.............................Height..........Weight........Wingspan
Kabengele...............6'9"..............250#.........7'3"
Vonleh....................6'10"............245#.........7'4"
Vonleh's hands are HUGE!! 9 3/4" long and 11 3/4" wide. Kawhi is generally considered to have the biggest hands in the NBA. His are 9 3/4" X 11 1/4". I realize Vonleh is taller, so his hands should be bigger, but this is ridiculous. And, no, I'm not overvaluing hand size, it's just an observation. Long hands do, however, extend one's reach.
Theis played 393 minutes for us last year over 21 games, starting 6. That's 18mpg. I am struggling to see either of these players being able to do that without being an undeniable weak link. If I'm correct then the search goes on because if neither of these two can do it then Kornet will be doing it and I'd rather not.
I understand giving up Theis was part of the price of getting Brogdon but we are now seeing just how valuable Daniel Theis was on our bench. Expensive for the role he played but you didn't worry when he came in for RWill or Al.

And with the history of our best 2 real bigs, that 3rd big is crucial. I don’t consider Gallo or GWill a real big. Well if we get an old dinosaur like Howard or Cousins, that could still be an option if these guys don’t look like they can cut it. Rooting for Kabengele, he showed some good hops….who knows if it translates to the next level?

Re: Celtics Sign Noah Vonleh
It seems to me that Brad is leaning towards finding a reclamation project.
Vonleh was on my draft radar list as was Kabangele.
The interesting thing is that those 2 plus Bruno all have the ability to take and make the 3 point shot. The Celtics are not looking for a low post bruiser. They seems to be focused on guys that can play the 4 and 5 spots and have mobility.
