Likely roster?

It will be interesting to see how close to this group the final team roster will be. 15 here, they could certainly go with 14.
My guesses, of course. We'll see how they battle for spots in the pre-season.

Roster
Tatum
Brown
Smart
RWIII
Horford
Brogdon
White
G Williams
Pritchard
Griffin
Kornet
Vonleh
Hauser
Thomas
Gallinari

2-ways
Kabengele
Davison

Likely Roster? Empty Re: Likely Roster?

The 2 key players that could push their way inside our top 10 rotation are Sam Houser and Kabengele.  We need scoring off the bench (Sam) and we need an active big who can play above the rim (Kabengele)

Once Rob returns, the rotation of our bigs will change.  By then we will have a pretty good idea about how those minutes should be distributed.  Blake brings a ton of veteran experience to the mix and I expect to see him in some small ball lineups.  It's no fluke.  Kabengele provides a vertical presence.  Kornet?

I think one of our 2 open roster spots should go to Noah Vonleh.  Justin Jackson gives us some length at SF but he is not a very good shooter. Jake layman, another local kid can jump but he is not a very good shooter, rebounder or defender.  Thomas was on the team last year on a 2-way deal but he barely played.  I do not know if he can help us much at SG.  Really small sample size on him.

With Rob out for 3 months and with AH not getting any younger, the Celtics should be leaning towards keeping bigs.  We are going to need them.

AJ Reeves has been signed for the rest of the pre-season, which has only 1 week to go.  He'll join Maine afterwards.

Four players competing for 2 spots.  My money says it's Vonleh and Jackson.  There's also a chance that Brad goes with only 14 players.  Then it'd be 4 players competing for just one spot.

Vonleh has had a good opportunity to play quite a bit. The Celtics are taking a long look at him. I agree that he probably will make the team. I think he can rebound and score however his defense leaves much to be desired. He does not provide hardly any rim protection.

I am still not very high on Jackson. I think that his positive showing the other night is fool's gold. The good thing is that he would be an end of the bench guy with his share of DNP's outside of our 13 man active roster.

dboss,

I agree with you on both players.

Vonleh probably will make the team. He has length, some hops and he has some skills. I hope the coaching staff can get through to him about team defense.

Jackson does nothing for me. I haven't watched the last game yet. It was blacked out from League Pass, being a local game and all. Maybe I will watch it later tonight, I want to see Blake in action. Anyway, I read that Jackson hit three three-pointers in a row. That's the fool's gold right there. Up until then, he's been, um, not so impressive.

IMO, Vonleh will get some playing time early on this season while Jackson will rack up a bunch of DNPs. Because of that, I'd hold out for a player that better fills a need.

There wasn't much mystery to the final roster.

My guess vs actual...

Projected Roster
Tatum
Brown
Smart
RWIII
Horford
Brogdon
White
G Williams
Pritchard
Griffin
Kornet
Vonleh
Hauser
Thomas
Gallinari

2-ways
Kabengele
Davison

Actual Roster
Tatum
Brown
Smart
RWIII
Horford
Brogdon
White
G Williams
Pritchard
Griffin
Kornet
Vonleh
Hauser
Jackson
Gallinari

2-ways
Kabengele
Davison

No daring guesses or rocket science involved in my original projection anyway. Went with the obvious.
Vonleh should get a chance to help the frontcourt scoring and grab a few boards. Griffin may take a while to work his way in but should get minutes if his conditioning moves along.
Should be a strong group if the bigs can get and stay healthy (I'm talking to you, Rob Williams.)
