Re: This is a shocker!!!
I do not think anyone should be surprised.
If your top players have zero respect for you there is no way that you can coach them.
Ime is still out there and probably is a candidate to get the job.

Nash should have never accepted that job. I get it. He wanted to coach but he was in lose lose mode the minute his swinging * walked through the door.
No experience and not very good he was bound to fail.
You would think if he had quality vets that were of quality character he’d be able to skate by and possibly have success. He didn’t and so he didn't.
They blew his ass outa there but the mess still remains.
Look for Kiarrhea to be the next swinging $@!* out the door.

Re: This is a shocker!!!
Joseph Tsai should have been more firm with KD and Kyrie right from the beginning, making them understand that Nash is the coach and they're the players and what that all means. He didn't, but that's all water over the dam now.
I think Ime will be the next head coach of the Nets. Just my gut, not breaking news, but he was an assistant coach there so the players know him and Nia Long (whom I believe he is still engaged to) lives in NY and that fixes a bunch of other issues.

Should Celtics allow Ime Udoka to become Nets head coach after Steve Nash exit?

Just over one year ago, the Celtics hired away Ime Udoka from his assistant job with the Brooklyn Nets to take over as head coach over the Celtics. Now, Udoka looks poised to be a top contender for the open Nets job after the team parted ways with Steve Nash on Tuesday.
Udoka is currently in the midst of a year-long suspension from his head coaching position with Boston after violating team policies. The team acknowledged last month that the suspension would last until June 30th at least and would be revisited at that point after a report revealed an investigation unveiled that Udoka had made “crude comments” to a female staffer before the start of an improper workplace relationship.
League sources have doubted to MassLive that Udoka has a future in Boston beyond his suspension and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the team would not stand in way of Udoka taking another job during his suspension.
Given the stakes involved right now, it’s fair to wonder how the Celtics will handle the situation though. Udoka is under contract for at least two more seasons beyond the 2022–23 campaign with Boston according to league sources. Letting him departure for a Conference rival that features Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving is probably not a situation the team’s brass would take lightly.
On the one hand, if the Celtics are confident in Joe Mazzulla as interim head coach, letting Udoka go for a new opportunity would free ownership from haggling over paying Udoka the remainder of his contract.
“The suspension comes with at least I’ll say, a significant financial penalty when you net it all out,” Wyc Grousbeck said last month. “That’s an accurate statement. Very significant financial penalty. And multiple violations, there were a couple violations at least.”
On the other side of the coin, letting Udoka lead a pair of rivals in Irving and Durant could strengthen the opposition mightily. The Nets are one of the worst defenses in the NBA to begin this season and Udoka helped Boston to lead the Eastern Conference in that department last season.
Even if the Celtics don’t have plans to bring Udoka back in the long term, preventing him from making that kind of jump to a East rival midseason would make a lot of sense for Boston while he was under contract. At the least, Boston demanding compensation for letting Udoka out of his contract would be a very reasonable request given the stakes of the situation.
The Celtics netted a first round pick from the Clippers back in 2013 after Danny Ainge let Rivers out of his contract to take over in Los Angeles following some prolonged negotiations. The particulars of the situation are far different here with Udoka due to his suspension but the bigger question remain in place. There’s no doubt Udoka is eager to move forward with his future in Boston extremely murky at best but the Celtics still hold the cards in this situation. How tightly they hold onto the head coach during his suspension will be something to watch amid a very high profile opening emerging that impacts the landscape of the Eastern Conference.

MY NOTE: No sooner than I opine that Ime will be the next HC of the Nets I see this article.

Re: This is a shocker!!!
Brian Robb has drawn a false comparison between Doc and Ime.
Doc wanted to leave.
If the Nets hire Ime which I think they should, it will save the Celtics millions. Is that not enough? I do not think they are entitled to compensation from any team that wants Ime to coach. The Celtics suspended him for the year and cut his salary in half. They have no intentions of bringing him back next season.

Seems like the Celts don't even want any compensation for Ime. What does that say?

Bob - Brian Robb must be your nom de plume. How else would your post and Robb's come out so congruently?
My take on Ime - Celts should cut back on the suspension time and the fine and have him coaching the Celts again by April. I doubt they would do that, but methinks they way over-reacted in the first place. Ime is a better coach than Joe. That's obvious to me. I know reinstating Ime is not the politically correct thing to do, but c'mon man. They were two (or three?) consenting adults.

When this all happened I told someone that the next step was, that Ime would end up coaching the Nets. The Celtics cleared the was for him when they said that they would not stand in his was if someone wanted to hire him. What the heck do you think Brooklyn was going to do. I hope Kyrie drives him out of his mind. The Ime Udoka story is over in Boston.

Rosalie
Ime as coach is over but I think most folks figured that he would not be back.
The story is far from over. The Nets play the Celtics 4 times this season. Ime knows our team. He will walk through the TD Garden door and the Celtics players are going to embrace him.
These games will be part of the story . How he reacts and how our players. How our fans react.

Ime’s not gonna put up with Kyrie or anyone else’s bulls**t.
Ime is gone from Boston and I trust that at the very least Irving will be gone from Brooklyn.
As for who wins, of the 3 there is no comparison when you look at who's far better as a coach.
I hope Joe succeeds for obvious reasons but we took at hit here no matter how you wanna look at it.

Ime couldn't keep it in his pants. He knew the policy regarding relationships with subordinates and acted like an ass. He and Kiarhhea deserve each other.

Re: This is a shocker!!!
How many games was Ime on the bench for the Nets when Kyrie was actually playing? I'm surprised he would walk back into that situation if he really knows Kyrie. And can he fix Ben Simmons? I'm sure he wants back in the game but the Nets seem like a poor place for him to make it. But from our perspective, while we may not normally want him in the East, he is going to a team that is probably unfixable. Two places he's welcome to go: Nets and Lakers. Neither is coachable.

In another game Durant sucked in the 4th quarter, threw the ball away. It was easy playing off Steph and Klay, getting open looks and lanes; now as the primary option he looks like the same player who couldn’t get it done with Thunder. The most pathetic part was seeing little Alex Caruso shutting him down during a 17-2 run.

If Ime wants to come back fine, what I’m not fine with is not getting any compensation. He’s still under contract to us, get at least a pick, nothing is for free. Red would never give a player/coach away for free….

Re: This is a shocker!!!
Free? That is stupid management. At least get a pick.
One reason Ime may want the Brooklyn job is that Nia Long and his child live there. He may be wanting to heal his family.

Under the circumstances, I think the Nets are a perfect place for Ime to resume his coaching career.
The Nets need him and he needs the Nets. The Brooklyn job is a high profile opportunity for Ime and will accelerate the process of forgetfulness.
If I was a betting man, I would bet that the Nets morph into a team that defends at a much higher level. If Ime can lead them in that direction, they will become legit contenders in the East. Dealing with the temperamental kyrie will be challenging. His issues are mostly off the court given the negativity surrounding his public statements. Ime was an assistant on the Sixers team so he already has a relationship with Simmons. It will be interesting to see how that works out.

Whacko as Kyrie is he has been playing really well. And they still lose because they play no D. Ime will fix that.

Kyrie scored 4 poins last night, all in the 4th quarter, in a loss to the Bullies. He looked disinterested. I don't think Ime or anyone else can penetrate his thick skull

Re: This is a shocker!!!
What I seem to be missing is Kyrie's time with Boston. None of all this extra, off-the-court crap was evident while he was here. Yes, Kyrie missed some time due to injury but when he played, he played. Now with Brooklyn, he's just a long-standing joke.
Kyrie reminds me of my fraternity brothers who smoked lots of weed. Every once in a while he'll say something very relevant but you have to be listening to catch it because it's usually only a sentence or two and then it was back to the psycho-babble.
On his current situation with his tweets, he is correct. He's done nothing wrong and is right not to "step down" or cower to his idiot owner's tweets or anyone else's responses. While this gets into 1st Amendment rights, etc. and is beyond the scope of this forum, he is free to say and post what he wants no matter how off-kilter or offensive it may appear or is misinterpreted. Unfortunately with freedom of speech comes great responsibility along with a clue about engaging ones brain before opening one's mouth and this is what will cost Kyrie his job in Brooklyn.
Hopefully, and I'm certainly not trying to say I understand anything going on in Kyrie's head or what comes out of his unfiltered brain via his mouth, but it sounds like Kyrie is trying to bring an end to the idiotic "political correctness" culture that has invaded the landscape here in the US for the last 10 years or so. That really has been and is stupid.
Anyway, Kyrie's going to be on the outside looking in here shortly so it really won't matter what he says as he will be unemployed. He can talk all he wants.
