I remember watching that celebration ceremony live on tv. I had seen the sign when the camera panned over the crowd. When Larry repeated the message about Moses, I actually fell on the floor laughing. I couldn't stop laughing. Besides the sheer audacity of Bird's remark, I was thinking of the local tv people wishing they had put the thing on delay.

kind of makes any of Pierces statements mild and the recent tweet was clever and very funny Laughing

Mrkleen,

Actually, the subject of respect for the game among players of different eras would make a really interesting discussion.

Trashtalking has always been around. It would be a great idea to pursue. Michael Jordan is supposed to have been one of the best at it.

Sam and K.C. Jones used to needle Wilt, but it was good-natured and Russ thought that K.C. did it more to get Russ's reaction than Wilt's. Russ himself would tell certain opponents to bring the salt and pepper because they were going to eat the ball.

In the 50s and 60s, there was something called 'putting the question' to a player: was he tough enough to take it? - and it involved elbows and punches and kicks, anything a guy like Lovellette could get away with.

The ultimate case of trash-talking gone bad was what Larry, D.J., and McHale did to Magic, calling him "Tragic" Johnson. The next year, that ill-advised insensitivity led to a baby sky hook with the clock running out.

Whoever said something about Lebron not having the ganas, as if he's a spoiled jock who's never had to deal with adversity (until now), may be closest to the truth. I expect he cares more about what Charles Barkley says than what Paul Pierce says about him.
