As the Celtics continue to give up a significant number of points just about every game I am sure a lot of fans wonder if it is the schemes or the players.   Every game our guys are getting beat off the bounce for layups or in the paint 2 pointers.  Everybody is getting cooked.   Our guys are playing hard but playing defense is not just about effort although without that energy your chances of stopping an opponent is null and void.

If you take a look back to last year you will see the exact same things with our guys getting beat off the bounce.

The only difference is that last year we had Robert Williams patrolling the paint and playing the role of the big fixer.  His defensive impact was absolutely phenomenal.  I watched his 2021-22 highlight reel again and I posting it below.  See how our guys are getting beat on defense and then see how Rob impacts the defense.  These are highlights and they do not show all the shot changing and intimidation impact that he has.

There is only one way that this team can regain their defensive dominance and have a legit vertical offensive element.  We must have Rob back there to be a great team.  I am feeling more confident that he will be back before the end of the year.  They should not rush him back.  Just make sure he is ready to go.

Right we did the same thing with Russell and KG and Perk, smother the shooting hand, get in their face and funnel them into the big man who would be there waiting….swat!!!!
