Paul Silas- Rest Well Sir…
Paul Silas, a former NBA coach and three-time NBA champion as a player, has died, the Houston Rockets announced Sunday. He was 79.
“The Fertitta Family and the Rockets organization are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Silas, father of Rockets head coach Stephen Silas,” the team tweeted. “Our heartfelt thoughts are with Stephen and his family during this difficult time.”

Rest in peace. For all the younger Celtics fans out there, know this. The Celtics became a contender when he was added to the Cowens/Jo Jo White/Havlicek team.

one of my all time favorites. He was a terrific player and brought so much to those Celtic teams. Now friends, that was defense and rebounding. RIP Sir........well done

Re: Paul Silas- Rest Well Sir…
I remember Paul Silas in that classic game 5 against Phoenix in 76.
I remember Paul hauling down rebounds and defending at a high level whenever he was out there.
I remember Paul Silas being LeBron’s first head coach in the NBA. (Still wondering what that was like. A spoiled Prima Donna and a man amongst men who took no s**t)
I remember going to a Dallas Mavericks game and seeing Paul Silas walk onto the floor with one his his best friends, Don Nelson. Nelson, who was head coach at the time, invited Paul to a game and later made sure that Silas would be compensated for his scouting and consultation. Paul’s son was later hired as an assistant to Rick Carlisle and now (bless his heart) is head coach for the Rockets.
I cannot think of any present day player that compares to Paul Silas.
Paul Silas- Classic Celtic who should be somewhere up in the rafters.
Rest well sir…

I saw an interview once where he was saying every player needed to have a special skill to stay in the league. When the writer asked him what was his skill? He said “Kicking ass”

Rest in Peace Paul Silas. He was the glue on those great Celtics teams of the 70's. A tremendous rebounder and defensive player. He was a class person, as well as a great player. The acquisition of Paul Silas was just another brilliant move by Red Auerbach. He knew he would be the perfect complement to Havlicek, Cowens and JoJo.
