Porzinga Foot
Another injury. Again, purportedly not serious. I've heard that one before

Re: Porzinga Foot
Not being mentioned by any of the usual Celtic sportswriters, other than he missed a game.
Part of me agrees with the "Don't Play FIBA" opinion. They're being paid ridiculous sums of money to play in the NBA for us, that's what they should do. They can't, by contract, play a lot of other sports that might injure them and affect their NBA season, so why should they play in non-NBA games?
On the other hand, even if you win the Championship, you've got 3 months off before training camp. That's a long time between games if you're contractually compelled to not play, a lot longer if your team didn't make the playoffs or got bounced early. The regular season ends in the 2nd week of April, remember.
Let's hope this is minor. There's 7 weeks plus before training camps open.

Re: Porzinga Foot
It’s still an actual competitive game with the players playing for something and they will be playing to win. Gallo messed up his dream to play for us in a non contact injury, and we could have really used him last year. Porzingis has nothing to prove playing in FIBA.

Re: Porzinga Foot
Porzingis does have the injury prone label attached to him. That's a known risk in acquiring him.
That alone would make it a good idea to pass on FIBA. I wonder if there was any discussion about this prior to extending him.
Great that he wants to play and compete. Better if it gets saved for the NBA contract with the Celtics.

It is a no brainer, that with his injury history, that he should not play FIBA. I'm getting a little concerned already that we traded a real "dog" in Marcus for a dog. Hopefully, this is a minor thing.

Refuting earlier reports, Latvian Basketball Association denies Kristaps Porzingis injury

Fans of the Boston Celtics were biting their nails about the health of their recently-extended All-Star big man Kristaps Porzingis after a report emerged that the Latvian big man might not play for his national team in the 2023 FIBA World Cup due to an undisclosed foot injury.
However, the Latvian Basketball Association (LBS), responsible for Latvian basketball activities including the FIBA World Cup, has denied these claims in a post on Twitter on Thursday. In a statement, LBS confirmed that Porzingis’s foot is not injured and that he will continue training for the tournament. “There has been information that questions the participation of Kristaps Porzingis in the FIBA World Cup. LBS denies this information,” wrote the Latvian Basketball Association (translation via Google Translate).
They also stated that both individual player preparation and team training are ongoing, with the lineup for the match against the Dominican Republic to be announced on August 12.
In the wake of forward Oshae Brissett electing to sit out World Cup play for Team Canada as a precautionary measure after an also-undisclosed knee injury, and Al Horford (sans injury) for the Dominican Republic as well, Boston fans are likely breathing a sigh of relief.
Especially less than a year removed from another major signee — Danilo Gallinari — tearing an ACL in FIBA play.

With injuries to Brissett, Brogdon and Porzingis before we start, I worry we'll miss Grant Williams, who played a couple of months with a hand injury he never mentioned. I was okay with Smart for 'Zingis, thinking at least we'll still have Grant, but now, who is the muscle? Who takes a charge when Giannis is going full tilt? hawk

What was it Mark Twain once said?
"The reports of my death were highly exaggerated!"
I still prefer to think of him as the second coming of the 1986 Bill Walton, slightly better physically at this stage until evidence to the contrary.

DBrown,
" the second coming of the 1986 Bill Walton"? Yikes!! Nothing like setting the bar high (insert height jokes here).
Ask Rosalie and she'll tell you how much I lusted after Porzingis in the 2015 draft. He floated a bit in the mock drafts, I was hoping he'd drop a bit so we could trade up from #16 to get him but the Knicks took him @ #4 (Terry Rozier @ #16 wasn't bad either, but I would have preferred Z). He was a shooter, a rebounder and an excellent passing big man. He really was The Unicorn of those Pre-Jokic days.
In his first 3 years as a Knick he underwhelmed on the boards, given he's 7'3", but he was only 20 and coming from a league that is less physical than the NBA. His floor generalship was, also, underwhelming with his turnovers outnumbering his assists. His 3rd year was better, averaging 22.7ppg in 32.4mpg, 39.5% from 3, but only played 48 games. All in all, he didn't get off to a booming start, and then he tore his ACL and missed season 4. When he went to Dallas his career started to look like it might live up to expectations. He averaged 20+ppg every season since except one (he averaged 19.2ppg). His rebounding moved up into the high 8s and low 9s per game, something we expect from a 7'er, but most importantly for his overall game his assist-to-turnover ratio turned positive. Not a ton of assists, but fewer turnovers and that's good. Availability, however, was his Achilles Heel (it's not even 7:30am here and I'm on a roll).
The two positions that normally need longer to grow into have been point guard and center. Point guard because of the learning curve and center because they need longer to "grow into their bodies". They get big so fast, and at such an early age, they can be awkward. Additionally, their soft tissue isn't ready for the pounding of the hardwood over an 82 game season. Just turning 28, Krispy Porkchops is in his prime, and his game last year in Washington proved it.
2022-2023
65 games, 32.6mpg, 2120 total minutes, 23.2ppg, 49.8% fg%, 38.5% 3pt fg%, 85% ft%, 8.4rpg
2.7apg, 2.1TOpg, 1.29:1.
Offensive Rating = 121
Defensive Rating = 113
The Wizards scored 113.2ppg last season (21st), they gave up 114.4ppg (17th). What this means is that they were a much better offensive team when Z was on the floor, but only a slightly better defensive team and they weren't good defensively.
For comparison, Jayson Tatum's Ratings were 118 and 110. So both JT and Z were a Net +8, but the Wizard's mediocre offense per 100 possessions with Z on the floor was better than Boston's when Tatum was on the floor. Our defense was better, but we were just a better all-round defensive team anyway you looked at it.
Long story, but the bottom line is that our offense should be much harder to stop this year, and we had the 4th best offense last year. My concern, which I know I share with all of you, is about our defense. The loss of Smart and Grant will hurt. We had the 5th best defense last year. It will be hard to match that this year even if Jordan Walsh makes a lot of heads explode, and while I have been talking him up I'm not counting on that in his rookie year, and he can't replace both of those players. Brad needs to get us at least one more dawg.

Since we're talking Walton, the era was the 80's, and the reference is 'high,' one could also insert a pot joke. Grateful Dead and tie-dye mentions are possible add-ons too.

Re: Porzinga Foot
I am waiting Bob!! Yes, I can definitely clarify one point!!! Bob has lusted after Zinger as he called him, for as long as I can remember. I am tiring of reporters thirsting for the collapse and fall of the Boston Celtics. Any report of a negative nature will just feed their joy. I am so looking forward to a new BIG in our lineup. As most of you know, I have been begging for this for three years I love Rob, but I truly have my doubts and am tired (as I think the brass are) of waiting for him to be totally healthy for a year. It is never going to happen, he is too fragile, even though he is so talented. So, if the guy my friend has been begging for for years is available, and we had the guts to go get him, I am ready for a new start. Let the reports go where they may, as is the Celtics reputation, you won't find out unless it is really true. Bring on the season Marcus I will miss you, but, this could be fun to watch develop

Re: Porzinga Foot
krispy kreme Porzingis better not get hurt.
It would be a disaster for the Celtics. NBA players in the best of circumstances are subject to injuries. Guys like KP that have a history of injuries means you multiple the risk times a factor.
Brad and the Celtics placed their bet and upped the ante with the $60 Million extension. I guess you could say that they are all in.

Re: Porzinga Foot
Love you guys and gal. You make me laugh morphing my original KP name play! Yeah, getting injured is almost out of the question for Porkchop. dboss, I like the Krispy Kreme reference. They started here in Winston-Salem, NC. Anyone who has had a donut with the now famous Red Hot Light on will drive off the road and over people to have one or 8 of those without even thinking. There may be some Mom and Pops that try to come close, but it really is impossible to beat.
My Walton reference was just since the injuries/time missed seem to be paralleling. We just need one good season from Krispy for now, just like Walton delivered in '85-'86.

Let me warn you, you will not be able to live with BobH if this guy produces the way the Celtics dream he will. He has loved this guy from the start. So….get ready. We all have our fav’s. Over the years you never would have been able to stand me because I was totally and completely taken with John Havlicek. Right from the start. So, I am hoping Zinger produces two thirds of what we are craving. A whole new world? Maybe
