Stupidity aside, I dont think contraction is a bad idea. Some teams, like New Jersey, Minnesota, LA Clippers, Charlotte - dont have any real fan base, dont make any money, and basically stink. Taking 3 or 4 teams out of the league would make every team that much better and raise the competition level in the entire league.

Doubt you will see that with money hungry Stern at the controls...but it is not a bad idea at all.
