Who was the originator of fast break basketball and the man whom Red's college had adapted this style of play and later on used by Red that made the Boston Celtic style of play famous years later?

They sure captured the hearts of Rhode Islanders back in the 40's. Living only 10 miles from Providence I was able to follow the team in the local press and I do recall the elation and pride that the URI-Kentucky game brought to the local area. Big time basketball had come to Rhode Island.

Adolph Rupp popularized what was called "racehorse basketball," turning it into a national championship weapon with Kentucky. It was Rupp whose fast break Red Auerbach copies, even drafting three premier Kentucky players in the same year (Frank Ramsey, Cliff Hagen who went in the trade for Russell, and Lou Tsioropoulos—who once beat Sam Jones head-to-head in a spring during practice.)
