ANNOUNCING A SEASON-LONG CONTEST ON OUR CELTICS "GAME-ON" THREAD

Welcome to the 2009-10 season. As shown on our handy-dandy calendar (thanks gyso), the first game (@ Cleveland) will start at 7:30 today and will be telecast on TNT. (Just hover over the three dots on any calendar date to see the game information for that date.)

We're going to be running a contest, in conjunction with the game-on thread, that will operate during each Celtics game this season. Here's how to enter:

• Submit a contest entry during each of as many games as possible.

• What is an "entry?" Before the beginning of the fourth quarter of each game, submit (on the game-on thread) your estimate of the minimum number of points that will be required to win the game. In other words, your estimate should be one point higher than the exact score you think the LOSERS will total. (Overtimes will be included in the calculations.)

• The guess closest to the correct figure, WITHOUT BEING LOWER THAN THE CORRECT FIGURE, wins the contest for that game. If there's a tie, there can be multiple winners for that game.

• We'll keep track of the number of wins by each poster.

On Christmas Day, we'll award a prize to the person with the most wins since the start of the season.

On all-star day, we'll award a prize to the person with the most wins since Christmas.

At the end of the season, we'll award a prize to the person to the person with the most games "won" since all-star day.

And at the end of the season, we'll award a prize to the person (other than any of those three) who has the highest number of wins
during the season.

So there will be four winners during the season. (The same person cannot win more than one of the four prizes. The two people who have
already won free subscriptions for the current year are eligible for this new contest.)

In each case, the prize will be a free subscription to a second year on this forum. Plus bragging rights.

This is not just a game of chance. It's also an exercise in honing your instincts for the rhythms and flow of the game. And I hope it will be a lot of fun. So please join in on the game-on thread and be sure to enter the contest BEFORE THE FOURTH QUARTER STARTS.
