Jeb,
Last I knew he had gotten quite busy with work among other things. I think at one point he was experiencing some of those "technical difficulties" we all love with our computers (and phones, and DVR's, etc.) as well.
Hopefully we'll hear from him soon.
Regards

Los Spurs beat Le Heat 125-95.
Anyone starting to get the feeling we might be spending some time with The Spurs this coming June?

The team that truely scares me for the playoffs is the Bulls. Derrick Rose will be the best player on the court and he's got some solid sidekicks in Deng,Boozer and Noah.
Bulls outrebounded Orlando 50-30 tonight in beating them on their home court 89-81. Impressive. Orlando bench shot 3 for 20 which, along with the rebound differential, killed them. Who the Hell is Omer Asik for Chicago who had 13 boards tonight?? I see he's a seven foot 255-pound Turkish center drafter by Portland in the second round in 2008 but this is the first year he's played in the NBA. Averaging a mighty impressive one rebound every 3.08 minutes. He actually out-rebounded Dwight Howard tonight. Bulls look terrific.

Re: Heat becoming kings of the collapse
The Heat continue to struggle against good teams.
I think the Bulls are the main competition for us in the East and it certainly looks like the Spurs are poised to make a run at it.
Hope the Lakers can find a way to win on the road in the playoffs and make it to the championship. No doubt in my mind that the Celtics will be there waiting.

Thanks for sharing. A talk and a book-signing, with your wife as cosigner - that's what the Holy Modal Rounders call 'Too Much Fun'. Happy for ya. But it's an exciting book, teeming with helpful hints and what you might call inside information. If, as I like to say, you're only as good as your subject matter, you chose wisely. It's just wonderful that a labor of love can turn out to provide so many happy returns. Forget Paris; next stop: Amazon.com.

Re: Heat becoming kings of the collapse
Glad to see the Spurs might finally be getting on people's radar. Does anyone around here watch them except twice a year when they play the Celtics? They are such a solid team, top to bottom, that is the best team I've seen in a long time. Their role players are so efficient and so productive, and they're the ones who make the difference with them. They have vulnerabilities -- they're too small up front, and Manu and Parker are susceptible to injuries because of the way they play. But they are so impressive, although they do it in such an understated way that it's too easy to not give them their due.NYCelt wrote:Los Spurs beat Le Heat 125-95.

Since we're on the subject, how about giving the Mavs some credit, too? They are 45-16, good enough for third in the league, half a game behind Boston. But consider this: they went 2-7 when Dirk was out with a knee injury and then 1-3 when he first came back. That's 10 of their 16 losses. They were 24-5 before that stretch, and they're 18-1 since, yet no one talks about them. They've underachieved in the playoffs more often than not, but it would be a mistake to lump them in as a second-tier team.
Oh yeah, the West also has the Lakers and the Thunder.
The prevailing opinion the past couple of years has been that the West was stronger overall but the East was stronger at the top. I think people ought to reconsider that this year.

I've got mad respect for the championship Spurs. I expect them to come out of the west this year if they stay healthy.
And the Mavs are very dangerous and playing exceedingly well against good teams.
The Spurs kept me sane during the godawful Shaq and Kobe=Phil years and I will always have a soft spot for them cause they beat that Lakers team and Offset Phil/Shaq?kobe' hollywood with godd ol unselfish quiet team ball.

Re: Heat becoming kings of the collapse
The Heat are now 0-5 in their last 5 games against teams with winning records. That sucks. I don't know their ranking in Superleague, it hasn't been updated recently, but they have to be pretty pathetic looking right now.

Another double digit blown lead for the Heat in today's loss to the Bulls. Anyone see a trend? I think there might be an article or two in the press about it soon!

Sam,
First, viaje bien!
Second, I've campaigned for NBA League Pass to offer a one team ticket for $99.00. I won't be buying the regualr legue pass again. It's just too much money to only watch one team and that is what I do. For all the others, bon apetite. lol

Mulcogi,
Thanks a lot. You already had your buen viaje I'm just trying to keep up with you. Isn't it true that, starting some time in january, a multi-team league pass for the rest of the season is available for $99? I assume you meant you wanted a one-team pass for the entire season.
Hope you're well.
Sam

Sam,
Yes, they reduce the price to $99.00 in Jan or Feb. No interest for me as per the reasons already stated. I have always loved basketball but I am not that interested in other teams. After all I was a 4 year starter for my first grade team. LOL
My health continues to improve although I have no stamina and still tire easily but at least I am no longer bed ridden but I do need to rest more than I have been.
I have been studying our families genealogy and now have a much stronger desire to visit France (and virtually every other county in Europe, plus Turkey, Egypt, Israel, China, and so much more, ) so I will need a copy of your book, I am sure. I know when you first mentioned it I said I wanted a copy and now I am ready to put my money where my typing is. I am so happy for you and Mrs Sam. What a wonderful thing to do together, visit, write, publish, and bask. LOL You both deserve it!

AdrianW, of Yahoo Sports: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-heatissues030611
For all the flexing and preening, the third-person proclamations and South Beach parties, LeBron James finally delivered these Miami Heat something pure and authentic in the privacy of the locker room: Full of emotion, he apologized for his big-shot, big-games failures and promised redemption.
“I told my team I’m not going to continue to fail them late in games,” James told reporters in Miami. “I put a lot of the blame on myself.”
James has used the words “fail” and “blame” a lot of times, but seldom in context of his own performances. His idea of accountability has always been his cronies and him nudging you in the direction of the guilty parties – his coach, GM, teammates – but never the global icon in the mirror.
LeBron didn’t promise to do different.
LeBron promised to do better.
He didn’t go to Miami to construct a partnership, as much as he did gather superior sidekicks. He’s going to keep trying because the solution will never be to bend to the I-told-you-sos that insist Dwyane Wade’s the closer on this Heat team. The Heat have two of the best five players in the world, and they still can’t play together when it matters most. Derrick Rose never wanted to play with James, but he welcomed the idea of Wade as his shooting guard. Wade must have some regret that he hadn’t gone home to Chicago in free agency and spared himself this most unhappy ever-after with the Heat.
It’s March, the playoffs aren’t that far away, and the Heat are still regressing. New York survives two shots out of James in the final seconds. Orlando makes a wild comeback to beat them. San Antonio blows them out. Chicago makes James miss a wild, driving shot in the final seconds. Four straight losses, and the gulf between James and Wade widens with every embarrassment.
“I’m used to coming down in the fourth, having the ball, making mistakes, getting a chance to make up for them, etc., “ Wade told reporters Sunday. “You try to do your best. That’s all you can do. That was one of the things we got to understand when we all decided to come together. That there were going to be sacrifices that have to be made. And you live with the consequences.”
Yes, you live with the consequences. Wade has started to say publicly what he’s been saying privately for a long time: Why don’t I get the ball when it matters? Miami’s no longer his town, and the Heat no longer his team. Didn’t you hear James? It isn’t our team. It isn’t D-Wade’s team.
My team.
When people warned Wade about letting LeBron into his life, they wanted him to think about how he’d handle James making all the big shots, becoming the biggest star on South Beach. They never considered the possibility of what it would feel like for Wade to watch James fail over and over.
So, Wade played the victim act and reminded everyone that he never, ever wanted to join James on his Hate Me Across America Tour. “The Miami Heat are exactly what everyone wanted, losing games,” Wade said. “The world is better now because the Heat is losing.”
Dwyane Wade said he's still learning how to adjust to LeBron James having the ball at the end of games. "You live with the consequences," Wade said.
Wade is angling for sympathy, but it doesn’t exist for him, nor these Heat. And James does nothing to ever make it easier. Before Miami embarked on this telltale stretch against contenders, James tweeted: “No friends when at WAR beside my brothers.”
These aren’t his brothers, and this is no war. The Heat trained on a military base, James signed some autographs for soldiers and he likes saluting teammates on the court. In his mind, it’s a little like storming the beaches of Normandy. Yet that’s LeBron James, and that’ll always be him. Wade can pout and play the victim and grow sharper in his rebukes of a Miami system that is slowly, surely turning him into Pippen-Lite. He shouldn’t be so despondent. After all, LeBron James tried to make himself accountable for his late-game failures. That’s progress for him. That’s historic.
He isn’t blaming his teammates.
Not yet, anyway.
Maybe James is fighting some war, but Wade lost his own when he let LeBron into his life. He was warned. He didn’t listen. Now, he ought to take his own advice and “live with the consequences.” Mostly, he should stop feeling sorry for himself. LeBron James apologized to his team on Sunday, not Dwyane Wade’s.

Re: Heat becoming kings of the collapse
MIA is the perfect example of why we only play one All Star game a year and it's an exhibition game at that. They have shown with only 2 1/2 Super Egoed All Stars that it just implodes on itself.
If one team ever assembles 5 true super ego all stars like at the All Star break with each making $10 mil apiece, the rest of the league would just have to play the slightest semblence of defense to force them into a huge tailspin for the entire season. Not to mention foul trouble, etc. If MIA doesn't put the DOA on this experiment, that's where this is all headed.

Heat shooting 59% and trailing 57-51 at halftime vs Blazers......also have 11 turnovers, no point guard and this 59% is not gonna last whole game, Bosh no blocks and 2 rebounds. McHale and Weber saying they have NO inside presence.

Re: Heat becoming kings of the collapse
Lawdy, lawdy Heat shrink in 4th and lose again. Heat went small with James at PF, that left Bosh having to defend Aldridge, well it didn't work. As soon as Aldridge posted Bosh a few times, Miami had to double leaving shooters and lanes wide open. Brandon Roy looked good and Gerald Wallace was all man going right at Lebron with an and 1 in his chest.
But the biggest weakness in Heat was Chris Bosh, he can be attacked so easily, Aldridge looked like the all star he should have been, he gave Bosh a real butt kicking. Heat may not get out of first round, Bosh has to be traded, the guy shrunk tonite.....and Blazers were playing second game of a back to back.Nobody is afraid of Miami.
