I'm going thru mixed emotions, at first I was heartbroken, angry, then I thought of the benefits, still have mixed emotions, imagine how Rondo feels. That Bermuda Triangle Defense with Rondo at the top and KG and Perk protecting the rim and covering for everyone was one of the all-time top defenses, now with the starters only winning one title they might not get their due.....what ashame. If KG never went down in 09 and Perk in last years Finals we may have won 3 in a row, if, if, if.
Ainge took a huge gamble instead of keeping a championship core intact, hes trying to rebuild for future with Green and Krystic and winning the title this year, if it works, he'll be a genious.....we'll see. The team that also got great benefit is the Thunder, what a unique frontline!! 3 guys all 6'10" to 6'11" all with different skill sets, the superstar scorer, Durant, the freak athlete, Ibaka and the Beast, the most physical banger in the league. They all compliment each other, I see a Finals appearence very soon for that team.

Re: Perkins start promising
The part about that article that tickled me is the way they were comparing Perk to Ibaka and categorized Perk as being the "cerebral" one of the two.
All things are relative and, I guess, compared to Serge Ibaka Perk is "cerebral".
Compared to KG? Not so much...

Perk learned from the best, he can disect plays as they're happening ala KG, GOOD to know he can do it without KG, think hes gonna help that team?

cow
cow,
Yes, I absolutely think he will. OKC's biggest weakness was their soft interior defense and being a little too much of a young, athletic finesse team. Perk knows finesse like the way elephants know tutus.

I often think of Paul Silas whenever I think of Perk, same mold and grit, fuck the stats, history has shown your always gonna need players like that to compete and win in this league.

I noticed Perk was 12 for 12 in that video when they showed him shooting.
Guys always seem to shoot better in these kind of videos than in real life.
Not sure why...

cow,
Yep, you're right. The stats don't tell the whole story, ESPECIALLY with Perk, and you can always use a player that will knock someone on their butt and then stare them down. Absolutely. Paul Silas is a good comp for Perk, including the hands of stone.
Nevertheless, let's take a look at some stats, per 36mpg, per basketball-reference.com:
Krstic is averaging 55% fg% with Boston, while averaging 50% this season with OKC and 49% career-to-date.
Krstic is averaging 6 fta with Boston vs 2.3 with OKC and he's shooting 73%. Compare that to Perk. We now have a center that we don't have to cringe if they get fouled and sent to the line at crunch time.
Krstic is averaging 9.4 rpg vs 7.3 with OKC and he's averaging 3.8 offensive ribbies vs 2.7 with OKC. Perk's career rp36minutes is 9.8rpg, so Krstic's keeping pace with Perk on the boards.
Krstic's scoring average, per 36mpg, is up over 4 points per game vs OKC.
Stats don't tell the whole story, but what these are telling me is that Danny didn't trade for a dog NOR did he trade for a player that does not fit in well with our system. Krstic is fitting in really well.
As far as Green goes, let's see how he's doing, per 36mpg:
He's averaging 47% fg% with Boston vs 44% with OKC this season. Career-to-date is 44%.
He scoring average is up about 2 pts.
His rebounding, assists and steals are off from OKC, but he was never a great rebounder, never a key assist player and now that he's playing fewer minutes coming off the bench, it is less important for him to do those. He's more of a role player now than he was as a starter.
I think we've done pretty well. I'm very happy with Krstic, so far, and I'm hoping that Green settles in over the remainder of the season. They're not bruisers, like Perk, but they definitely serve their purpose. When examining a trade you not only have to look at what we lost, but also what we gained. We gained a 7-footer who can shoot from >4' away, hit free throws and rebounds offensively. We gained a very versatile 6'9" player who can play 2 positions. A 6'9" SF? Doc should be able to find some way to use that, doncha think? I am very aware of the blown defensive rotations by both players (especially Green) but our defensive schemes are not simple and intuitively obvious. They take time to learn and both of these players appear to have pretty good IQ.
These guys are only going to get better as they settle in and learn the system and their teammates and they're already doing better than they were with OKC, which was a pretty good team too. It's not playoffs yet.

.....I think Perk helped again tonight, on last play right when they took him out he had a great hard foul on Lebron knocking him on his back, now theres two teams younger and possibly better than the Heat, Thunder beat down on Miami insecond half with defense, something they could never do before. Lebron punishes people on his drives, good to see him land on his back.

I loved watching Wade dance and LeBron show everybody his "I'm so bad" gameface (especially after an uncontested dunk) in the first half, only to watch them fall apart and start fighting with the refs in the second half.

Watched the final quarter or so of the Heat game too. Loved it. Bron took an ill advised three with perhaps 20 seconds on the shot clock and only 1 teamate anywhere near the paint.
Also loved Wades minor melt down. Even if there was a foul and there probably was, the ensuing FS would have only cut the lead to 5 I believe and they still ahd time but by not playing D or making any effort to get back OKC buried a three and then made 1 of 2 with the ensuing T's.
Over the course of the game the heat attempted more FS and and were called for several less fouls yet they still complain........absolutely love it.

delighted to see the Heat take it on the chin. great hearing Hubie make the call, too.
but the Thunder are getting more and more scarier ... they are SO young, and yet so loaded !!!!! i suspect theier time is not yet, but it's definitely coming, and it won't take much longer or very much more player development over time.

bobh, i just meant calling the game - he is the best national guy, IMHO.
he did say that Wade was fouled before he got T'd up, which the replays showed was true. but besides that, he was loaded with respect for what Perk brings to the game that have NOTHING to do with the stat sheet. he was a one guy fan club for Perk !

Re: Perkins start promising
Would be a great story (and not out of the question) if Boston played the Thunder in the Finals and Perk comes back here with everything on the line to face his ex-mates. Crowd would give him a standing ovation before that first game here I would imagine. Then it would be all business.

I agree about Hubie. He's forgotten more about basketball than the sum total most basketball-savvy people know.

yes, and Jeff VG and Mark J are not even in the group of b-ball savvy people - it is just painful to me to hear them work a game.
and now back to our thread !
