So I'm sitting at Logan Airport, as my computer battery slowly runs dry. And, at the end of an article in today's Boston Globe about Jermain's return is this little squib:

Members of the 1968-69 Celtics championship team will be at Shriner's Auditorium in Wilmington (Mass.) for a sports memorabilia show from Friday-Sunday. Bill Russell, Sam Jones, John Havlicek, and Satch Sanders are scheduled to be in attendance.

I know no more details, so you're on your own. I suggest googling Shriner's Auditorium. If anyone goes and sees Sam, please tell him his friend Dick D. from the old days in Sharon wishes he could be there but Dick's vacationing in St. Kitts. And please tell him to give my best wishes to Gladys and the entire family.

Sounds like an autograph signing thing to me. What'll you pay to get Russ's autograph?

I dearly wish I could be there, but I hope anyone who goes has a great time. And gives a snappy report on this board.

Go Celtics!

Wow, also Don Chaney, Bailey Howell, Emmette Bryant and Mal Graham plus stars of other sports like Bobby Orr and Jim Brown.

I may have to swim home for this. Naaaaaah! But I'd like to. Brings more than a couple of tears to my eyes just to think about it.

Also tell Bailey that I'm the one who wrote the booklet about the 1969 championship game after I went on the trip with the Celtics. And also played golf with him. And give Dick's best to Bails and Mary Lou. You might try the same thing with Havlicek, but I'm not sure he'll remember me. If he does, give my best to him and Beth.

This may be hyped all out of proportion. But it's an entree, and my rule is to get a foot in the door and be an opportunist.

Have fun,

Sam
