Can anybody explain how Jeff Green went 0-1 FG in 20 minutes and Delonte went 0-1 FG in almost 20 min? I thought we did this trade to upgrade the offense?

Getting sick of hearing Rondo quitting going to the basket. I am so over "As Rondo goes, so goes the Celtics." If the guy does not want to play, ship his asx out of town and let someone come in who has no mood swings! He's an exceptional talent but if he refuses to show it it means very little.

We treated it like it was a pre-season game (other than the first three minutes when we went up 11-2) and the Heat treated it like it was an elimination game. I can't tell you how many times our shooters got attacked by two and sometimes three people when they attempted a shot. After getting down early Miami was swarming on defense, and added to that the Celtics were careless with the ball and had no desire to follow their own shots and attempt to get an offensive board - I heard an announcer say at halftime that the Heat had more OFFENSIVE rebounds than we had TOTAL rebounds. I've never heard a stat like that when two good teams play each other. We had 10 first half rebounds. Ridiculous. Rondo took the night off and has had a very poor last six weeks except for a few isolated games, most recently the Wizards game on Friday where he seemed like the old Rondo. But for every game like that he seems to have three or four weak ones. I can't figure him out. I don't want to think he has a lack of motivation because his best buddy was traded but his numbers are off significantly since that Denver game (first game after the trade) Feb. 24. It's clear Miami was out to get this one after being embarrassed by us the first three meetings and with possibly home-court advantage in the second round at stake with a win today. We just didn't bring it today; didn't show up with any intensity or intelligence. By the way we could STILL get homecourt over the Heat if they lose to the Hawks tomorrow in Atlanta (a BIG if I know, with how lousy Atlanta's been playing lately) - we know Miami won't lose to the Raptors on Wednesday - and we beat both Washington and the Knicks tomorrow and Wednesday. That would leave both of us with 25 losses and we own tie-breaker. Go Hawks tomorrow. You know much they hate the Heat and would love to hurt their chances. I just don't know if Atlanta's got it in 'em.

Even though it was a lopsided score (a 23 point loss), I thought a big moment in the game was in the first quarter when we were up 22-15 and Pierce missed a wide open corner three that would have put us up 10 and given the Heat and their fans some agita. Instead, Miami came down, hit a shot and what could have been a double digit lead late in the first became a five point game and gave the Heat the feeling they'd be ok. I know I immediately had a bad feeling about it at that point and knew it would be a struggle. Not that I thought this game would be a piece of cake but I thought we could pull it out. At that point I knew it would be a dog fight and we would have to fight them off the rest of the way if we wanted to win. Little did I know we had no fight in us.

Jermaine O'Neal was absolutely atrocious. In possibly the biggest game of the season he went without a rebound OR a point and committed four fouls in 14 awful minutes, one a borderline dirty play on Lebron when he made no play on the ball as Lebron was flying toward the basket. He deserved his flagrant on that play. He is NOT ready for playoff basketball. And who the Hell knows what we'll get out of Shaq in the playoffs.

Our two big measuring-stick late season games against the Bulls and Heat have left me feeling less than confident about our ability to perform at peak level when it matters. This team needs a serious infusion of ganas. And soon.

I wonder what Rondo's stats are when Shaq is in the lineup vs. when he is out?

POST GAME MIAMI Empty Re: POST GAME MIAMI

Post by bobheckler Sun Apr 10, 2011 11:05 pm

At this level, every team has talent. Every team has players. Every team has professional coaches staffs and trainers. What makes a difference, often, is ganas. They had it, we didn't. They won, we lost (and looked bad in the process). They got in our face and woofed and we didn't woof back. This game meant something to them, and played like it, and we were late for our manicure.

I thought that when we traded Perk we were losing defense but gaining offense. We only scored 77 points. 77!! We only had 64 fga. That's anemic, to say the least. Our offense looked great for the first few minutes and then stopped. No movement, no recognition of the heightened defensive activity. One turnover and bad pass after another. The only two players that I thought showed up were KG and Pierce, and Pierce had 4 turnovers because he held the ball too much.

We used to set double picks up high, to break the ball free, all the time. Now, they're occasional and not held, so the ball never really breaks free. We're too eager to get to our spot to receive the pass. They problem is the pass is contested because of the poor picks. Passing is something we do now when we're in trouble, not something we do because it forces the defense to react and trouble is what we're in because it's almost the playoffs and the defenses are stepping up.

One of the things I've noticed is our lack of effectiveness coming out of timeouts. We used to execute VERY well coming out of timeouts. Over the past 3 games, we have looked inept. What's disturbing about this is that it's the starters that are failing to execute too.

1. Rondo needs another meeting with Doc. He played great after the last one, right? Too bad it only lasted one game. No aggressiveness. It's one thing to be dominated by the next MVP, it's another thing to barely hold your own against a mediocre point guard like Mike Bibby. He didn't run the ball up, he didn't break down the defense, he didn't attack the rim. He stood out at the 3pt line and waited until players came open. Nice job if you can get it. 5 assists in 37 minutes is the same number Bibby had in 31 minutes. He took 3 shots in the paint, 3. So much for the Chicago game being a turning point. Hell, I thought Mario Chalmers outplayed Rondo. Here we are, crunch time, and Rondo has had one good game out of the last 3 and the good one was against chumps.

2. Another crappy game for Davis. 3-11 with almost all of his shots coming from the outside. He has completely forgotten about running the court and moving without the ball. He is now, almost exclusively, a one-on-one player and an outside jumpshooter.

3. Jeff Green took 1 fga, 1, in 19 minutes. That's an offensive failure, to me, because Lord Knows he couldn't defend LeBron and nobody should expect he should have. What we should have expected, is that we make Miami pay on the offensive end. We didn't even try.

4. One fga for Delonte West. This is not a copy and paste. He only took one fga too.

5. Jermaine was largely ineffective, but I love the foul he laid on LeBron. Not dirty, but physical. We need more like that. LBJ's response was completely inappropriate and excessive, but it showed the emotion he was playing with, which was more than the entire Celtics combined.

6. We also need the other O'Neal. He wouldn't have stopped Z from draining those 20' jumpers in the 3rd quarter, but he wouldn't have given up offensive tip-ins to Z either.

7. Our bench shot 3-16. What's sad is that all 3 of those fgm were by Baby. The rest of the bench should have stayed in Boston. That's 0-5 for the rest of the bench. That's clearly not enough shooting. I thought our bench was our strength? Is Von Wafer healthy? I've come to appreciate Von Wafer's game, but I'm also aware of just how much trouble we're in when I'm screaming for Von Wafer to save our bench.

8. I understand players committing turnovers because they're new. They're new, they don't know where their teammates are likely to be, so they throw the ball away. But I saw KG throwing the ball away to Ray. I saw Pierce throw the ball away to Rondo. We're talking players who have been playing together for years playing like they've just been introduced over lunch.

9. We had 29 rebounds. Total. That's awful. They had 15 offensive rebounds. 15!!! We had 16 assists and they had 24. The ultimate ME-ball team out-assisted the Celtics BY FAR.

I'm sorry. I gotta go puke now.

Bob,

Great piece of writing and you touched on all the salient points that have been troubling us all. Even I feel as though I got something off my chest by reading your post.

Hey Danny's trades...Danny's problem.....Danny's gotta fix or Danny owns it! It may be beyond Doc at this point in time.

bob I think our picks suck because even though he drew a foul here or there, Perk was our best at setting a strong wide pick.

Danny's made the Celtics into a corpse. Danny's decision-Does Danny have them embalmed, or is cremation the answer! Oh Gosh, I am so awe struck by Danny's basketball intelligence! NOT!-I wish Pat Summit could light into these guys Doc soft peddals too much! Coach Summit would not need to lace the tirade with profanity either! Bob Knight could and would though! Celtic alumni must be sething at this whimpering buch of fading stars!-MD

Doc should take time away from coaching the game and focus on his son's career at Duke. These guys have turned a deaf ear to him anyway-Let Ainge coach 'em-I hope that dope gets the same treatment from Wyc the McHale got in Minnesota!-MD

Rajon Rondo shows up every third game at this point. To me, that says it all.

I dont like Jeff Van Gundy - he is annoying and thinks he knows it all. But he did say one thing that resonated with me. Some nights, you look at Rondo and you say " he is clearly one of the top 5 point guards in the world." A night later, you say " he isnt even close to being a top 5 PG"

Until Rajon decides to play hard every night - the Celtics are in trouble.

You add Shaq and a highly efficient Rondo to the court - and this game (and the rest of the playoffs for that matter) are different. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

You're a good man and I have much respect for you. However, the handwriting is on the wall (not John) for the C's, and it ain't hieroglyphics. The only shorter line for the C's in this year's playoffs can be found on a Monopoly board game. Maybe a few shots of Jack Daniels can help Doc forget. I'd like to see Ainge take a few well placed shots from Klitchko for his misguided efforts!

No, The Sky has fallen! We can now see how Gi-normous the hole is on our "O" zone, not to mention our "D" zone-neither of which is very O-riginal, or D-lightful!

Even if that is the case and you are correct that the Celtics are finished. You think maybe they should go out and play the games anyway? Just for the hell of it?

The only reason the C's hold onto the 3rd spot is because there are not enough games left for Orlando to catch the C's, and Dwight Howard is getting Techs faster than a dog getting fleas without flea powder!
